GENERAL CONDITIONS OF TRANSPORTATION 

Hereby, in detail, the general conditions of transportation valid on the flights operated by Meridiana. For flights operated by other Carriers (Codeshare Flights), please 

take into consideration the conditions present on the website of the Airline that operates the respective flight. 

Check-in 

In order to avoid any delays due to congestion on check in operations and security controls, Meridiana invite their passengers (customers) to take note of the check-in 

schedules of our flights, in particular check-in time limits:- domestic flights and International flights in Europe (not included flights to Chisinau) : check-in opens 2 hours 

before flight departure time and closes 35 minutes (domestic flights) and 45 minutes (International flights) earlier than flight departure time; - intercontinental flights (not 

included Dakar, New York, Brazil and Cuba): check-in opens 2 hours and 30 minutes before flight departure time and closes 45 minutes earlier than flight departure time; 

- flights to New York, Brazil and Cuba: check-in opens 3 hours and 30 minutes before flight departure time and closes 60 minutes earlier than flight departure time; - 

flights to Chisinau: check-in opens 3 hours before flight departure time and closes 60 minutes earlier than flight departure time; - flights to Dakar: check-in opens 4 hours 

before flight departure time and closes 75 minutes earlier than flight departure time. 

In case the passenger does not show up within check-in time limits, he loses any right to board even if provided with a reservation. In case of no show at departure, 

Meridiana will be able to void all reservations made for any onward or return flights. 

Warnings:Passengers who need to register checked baggage, excess weight or special baggage are invited to pay before their arrival at the airport through the website or 

the Meridiana Call Center. Otherwise they are invited to arrive at the airport before time of check-in to purchase the necessary transportation documents.

4. Flights from/to Brazil: For passengers born in Brazil on scheduled flights from/to Brazil is admitted a baggage allowance of 40 kg, the maximum weight admitted 

per single baggage is 30 Kg.

For infant passengers (0-23 mesi) a completely foldable child carrier or stroller is advised in Economy/Business class. 

Dimensions and weight 

Is allowed transport of luggage with total dimensions not exceeding cm. 158 (length + width + height), the maximum weight for each baggage must be 30kg, each 

piece of luggage must be labelled with the passenger's name and address.

Hand baggage - Special baggages: 

Each passenger is allowed to carry in the cabin one hand bag that should not exceed 55cm. x 40cm x 20cm and weigh more than 8kg (5kg on flights operated by A/M 

ATR). Moreover, it is allowed to carry on bags or briefcases, waist-bags and laptop/tablet cases, in addition to usual handbags. Please note: in case of full flights, it 

may have to board a certain amount of handbags inside the hold. According to the safety measures contained in the Programma Nazionale di Sicurezza (National 

Safety Programme), dangerous articles are not allowed on board, while other items may be carried only in specific compartments of the aircraft. Moreover, strict 

limitations regulate the transportation of certain items which may only be carried as hand baggage.

Documentary requirements 

The airline requires all passengers to provide photographic ID at check-in on all flights including domestic services. Passengers who use the online check-in service 

will be required to provide photographic ID, the boarding pass and a copy of the ticket at the security gate. Customers that purchase the territorial continuity fare 

must provide the right documentation certifying that they belong to one of the categories that allows access to the special fares (a valid form of identification, 

medical certificate, valid university card). The Government of the United States of America has introduced new rules for admittance to its own National Territory. 

Before departure, passengers travelling to U.S.A., should access the link Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) in order to get the relative authorisation. 

Passangers with special assistance 

Passenger should call the CallCenter for the reservation of special assistances (unaccompanied minors, blind passengers, disabled passengers or other 

assistances) or see the Special assistance section. 

For the transportation of excess baggage which must be paid, sporting equipments and pets in the hold where expected, please go the dedicated area. 

Exchange and Refund 

To exchange reservations or process a refund please visit the relative section. 

Warnings: apart from the fare and the possible penalty, Meridiana will apply an administration fee for the handling of refunds which amounts to 20.00 Euro per ticket. 

If the refund due to the customer is less than the administration fee applicable, the refund will not be made. No administration fees are applied to Sardinia Territorial 

Continuity flights. The additional costs for managing the reimbursement policy are not provided for Continuità Sardinia's facilitated and not facilitated charges and for 

Premium fare in booking class Y. 



Overbooking (denied boarding) - flight cancellation - long delay 

In order to limit the effects deriving from no-shows of passengers who properly booked their flights, Meridiana - just like other major airlines - tends to overbook its 

flights. This practice undergoes a strict procedural control, which is subject to an ongoing monitoring on the expected number of passengers. Meridiana will 

correspond a compensation to passengers who could not get on board because of wrongful unavailability of seats. Meridiana informs its passengers that in case of 

denied boarding, flight cancellation or a minimum delay of two hours, passengers can reach the check-in counters or the airline exit gates where will be provided 

with text listing all the passengers’ rights as regards compensation and assistance, according to Regulation [EC] 261/2004 art. 14 (1). 

Minimum services guaranteed in case of strike 

According to the law in force, in case of strikes of the airline industry, Meridiana will regularly guarantee scheduled domestic and international flights from 7 am to 

10 am and from 6 pm to 9 pm, as well as further connections to the islands that will be identified by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, as an essential step to ensure 

passengers mobility in the air transport. 

Relevant information regarding the flights guaranteed during a strike, as well as other flights that may be operated in consideration of the type of labour conflict in 

course, will be promptly notified, as they become available, through the official information channels. 

Flights operated by a carrier other than Meridiana 

Meridiana, as the air transportation contracting party will inform the passengers, at the moment of the reservation, the identity of the Airline or Airlines actually 

operating the flight, when different from Meridiana. If the air carrier operating the flight is not the air carrier contractor, the passenger has the right to initiate a claim 

or ask for refunds and compensations with both, operating air carrier and contractor. The air carrier contractor has its name or code shown on the ticket, the 

operating air carrier is the company that actually operated the flight. Proper legal action shall be taken within two years from the date of arrival or from the date 

when the flight was expected to arrive at destination.

Timetable 

Meridiana takes special care to enforce the regularity and punctuality of its flight schedules; however the airline assumes no responsibility for missed connections 

with others airlines. 

Air transportation of persons and baggage is regulated in Italy by the European Union law, the current international agreements and the Air Navigation Code. The 

Airline companies in the European Union are subject to (EU) Regulation no. 2027/97, as modified from (EU) Regulation no. 889/02, on the responsibility of the carrier; 

to (EU) Regulation no. 261/04 regarding monetary compensation for denied boarding; to (EU) Regulation no. 1107/06 on the rights of persons with disabilities and 

reduced mobility; and to the 1929 Warsaw Convention and the 1999 Montreal Convention regarding international air transportation.

Ticket 

Tickets are valid for one year starting from the booking date of flight departure. Such validity time can be reduced in case of purchase under restricted or limited 

conditions. Meridiana can deny air transport in case of non payment of the ticket fare or any other due amount (charges, taxes or extra fees). Passengers are 

required to pay any due government tax and/or any other further fee not included in the ticket fare directly to Meridiana or to the relevant authorities.

Meridiana informs that passengers' Personal Data are processed according to " D.lgs. 30/06/2003 n° 196: Personal Data Safety Code ". For more info please visit our
