Jxiang Province On the 9th May, the Auckland Site Safe office received a Government delegation from the Jxiang province of China. The delegation was lead by Zheng Le Xian Deputy Director of Work Safety, and Kang Bin Emergency Rescue Commander and were touring Australia and New Zealand to study how other countries manage workplace safety. Site Safe's Auckland regional manager Russell Parker talked to them about Site Safe's mission and what activities are currently underway with the New Zealand construction industry and how that connects with the New Zealand Health and Safety in Employment act 1992. Parker commented that some interesting points there were raised were that "all construction workers in the Jxiang province are required to go through a base level training programme that is payed for by the Government". Parker went on to say" they were amazed that Site Safe was not more supported and utilised by the Department of Labour to assist in policing the industry." The Jxiang province area is over 160000 km2 , and has a population of approximately 39.66 million. Their nominal GDP for 2009 was 765 billion yuan (112.1 billion USD).
