ZONES ATHLETICS<br />

A successful day was had by <strong>St</strong> Paul’s athletes at the Central Zone Athletics Championships<br />

held at Porritt <strong>St</strong>adium on Tuesday, 5 th March. Sixteen titles were won by our athletes and<br />

thirty three athletes in total qualified for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Secondary <strong>School</strong>s to be<br />

held just 11 days later, based on their results.<br />

The standout performance on the day came from Ryan Ballantyne as he broke two junior<br />

boys’ records in the 300m and shot put. He also placed 2 nd in the discus and was part of the<br />

junior boys’ 4 x 100m relay team that placed 2 nd .<br />

There were also a number of other athletes with multiple victories on the day. This group<br />

comprised:<br />

Tom Smith senior boys 1 st 100m, 400m and 2 nd 4 x 100m relay<br />

James Hunt open boys 1 st 300m hurdles, senior boys 110 m hurdles and 3 rd 100m<br />

and 2 nd 4 x 100m relay<br />

Meg Skilton 1 st intermediate girls triple jump, long jump , 4 x 100m relay and 2 nd 400m<br />

Georgia Burke 1 st 200m, 400m and 4 x 100m relay<br />

Other title winners on the day included:<br />

Cameron Smale 1 st junior boys javelin<br />

Joel Taylor 1 st intermediate boys 200m, 4 x 100m and 2 nd 400m<br />

Aditya Sakalkale 1 st intermediate boys javelin<br />

Jackson Morgan 1 st intermediate boys discus and 2 nd shot put<br />

Sean Henley-Smith 1 st senior boys 200m and 2 nd 400m<br />

Emma Walker 1 st intermediate girls 80m hurdles and 4 x 100m relay<br />

Other athletes to qualify for Waikato Bay of Plenty Secondary <strong>School</strong> Championships<br />

Connor Gordon 2 nd junior boys 300m and 3 rd 200m<br />

Andre Kleuskens 3 rd junior boys triple jump<br />
