October 24, 2010 St. Peter School News Middle School Math Students take 1 st place – Blue Ribbon Winners – Congratulations to Middle School students; Molly O‟Brien, Shelby Dillender, Nora Brooks, Olivia Loudenslager and Ashley James. Other schools competing were: Annunciation, Holy Redeemer, Incarnate Word, Our Lady of Providence, Sacred Heart – Eureka, Sacred Heart – Valley Park, St. Dominic Savio, Ste. Genevieve DuBois, St. Gerard Majella, St. Justin the Martyr, St. Michael, St. Paul – Fenton and St. Richard. Special thanks to their teacher – Mrs. Podnar. Kindergarten and Pre-School Information Night – November 17 th at 7:00 p.m. Please join us for our information night. The Pre-School Director and Kindergarten teachers will be presenting an overview of our wonderful programs for the 2011-2012 school year. We will also review enrollment procedures. You will be added to the list of Confirmation candidates to receive mailings and information. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred at our parish on Tuesday May 10, 2011. Preparatory meetings and activities will begin in early December, and continue throughout the winter and spring. Candidates are required to attend these sessions in order to be prepared for the sacrament. Students attending St. Peter School and PSR will receive information through their programs. YOUNG FAMILIES GROUP Our next monthly rosary - Monday, October 25 - 6:30PM! Have you ever wanted to say the rosary as a family but just thought your kids were too little or would not pay attention? Maybe you don't even remember how to say the rosary but might if you were reminded. The Young Families group at St. Peter Parish has decided to make saying the rosary a true family event! We will meet in church the 4th Monday of each month from 6:30-7:00PM and say the rosary for a special intention. All you need to bring is a rosary and your family. There is no need to worry that your kids might be loud or not pay attention, all will add to the overall meaningful prayer our families can offer. October 24, 2010 PRO-LIFE 40 DAYS FOR LIFE . . is an intensive Pro-Life Campaign that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and 40 days of grassroots educational outreach. This peaceful and prayerful witness for life brings awareness to the reality of abortion and the damage it can cause the community. The most visible component of 40 Days for Life is the peaceful prayer vigil outside Planned Parenthood's Forest Park facility. This vigil is a peaceful, prayerful and educational presence from 7:00AM to 7:00M every day for 40 days. St. Peter has committed to staffing 2 volunteers every hour to peacefully stand vigil at Planned Parenthood on Thursday, October 28 from 7:00AM to noon. If you are willing to stand vigil for an hour (or longer) that morning or would like more information on the project, please contact Stephanie Reh at 822- 2430 or msreh@sbcglobal.net. PREPARING FOR THE EMOTIONAL SIDE OF RETIREMENT Monday; November 8 th - 7:00PM Ursuline Hall in the Library Are you thinking about retirement? Are you ready to face the emotional side of retirement? What about the continuation of relationships, the use of your skills, the time you will spend in leisure or volunteering, the issues that come with health. These and other ideas will be covered in an evening dedicated to "Preparing for the Emotional Side of Retirement.” Mary Ann Peters, from our Parish and a certified Retirement Options Specialist, will lead the evening. There will be time for input and discussion, along with a take-home assessment booklet. PETER LIBRARY IN URSULINE HALL Traditionally, Mystagogy is for all who just came into the Catholic Church at the Easter vigil. These once-a-month sessions at St. Peter provides an opportunity to share in each other's spiritual journey. Even if you have been a Catholic since birth, you may feel called to be a part of this group. We will share the Gospel message, ask questions, and listen to each other.
