Lives Edinburgh.
Who is she? Want to get
the best deals on gigs,
theatres and events in
Edinburgh? Mel’s your
woman. In 2002 she
set up the Silver Card
Company, an online
scheme offering special offers and cardholder
events to signed-up members.
“There were so many offers for students,
but nothing for professionals,” she says.
The idea proved successful and she now
has 10,000 people on her books. When
she’s not working, she enjoys live music
and walking her sheepdog Tara.
Turn-on “Polo-necks and a good dancer.”
Turn-off “Bad manners and huffiness.”
in Scotland, often giving her the luxury
of an unlimited budget to work with.
Turn-on “A subtle whiff of really nice aftershave,
particularly if it’s Chanel Allure.
I’m also a sucker for big brown eyes.”
Turn-off “Arrogance and really bad shoes.”
Dream date “Vince Vaughn seems like a
really lovely, funny guy.”
50 LAURA MACDONALD
NEW
Lives Edinburgh.
Who is she? Always a
creative spirit, Laura
recently launched her
own jewellery range,
choosing pearls as her
main medium – “they
add class to any outfit”.
After finding university life too slow, she
took a job with Caledonian Heritable,
looking after the day-to-day running of
pubs and clubs. By her own admission,
though, she turns into “a crazy woman”
for 90 minutes every Saturday, when she
attends the Watsonian Rugby Club.
Turn-on “An interest in rugby – and a body
to match.”
Turn-off “Bad personal hygiene.”
Dream date “Mr Rochester from the latest
adaptation of Jane Eyre – I’d prefer the
character, but wouldn’t say no to the actor!”
Henry McLeish and Jack McConnell,
Joan Serafini set up Equator Events
fashion, retail, tourism and hospitality
industries and is working on a novel.
Working for the Forth One breakfast
show has seen Andy ‘Boogie’ Bouglas
interviewing a host of stars, including
Madonna, Justin Timberlake and George
Michael, and singing on air with Kylie. Last
year he campaigned to get on the Eligibles
Mary McGowne is the founder of the
Scottish Style Awards, Scotland’s premier
athletes. She broke new ground to become
the first female winner of the Scottish
Young Sports Journalist of the Year award.
Annette Lamb is press and marketing
manager at Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh,
and produces the store’s twice-yearly
she can be found on the golf course.
