Newsletter
February 2012

And Now… a Word from Morley Schloss
February is always Sunsports’
busiest month. There are activities in the pavilion
almost every evening and petanque, volleyball and
tennis each day.
February includes Sunsport's largest event, the
Midwinter Naturist Festival, now in its 24th
year, Thursday, February 16, through Tuesday,
February 21. The Festival is six days of fun, growth
and community with over 280 activities from which to
choose including a mini camp for children. People
from throughout North America attend. The
contributions of Sunsport members are crucial to the
success of the Festival. This year 41 Sunsport
members will lead workshops. Last year, around 65
members helped in other ways. I really appreciate
the involvement of the Sunsport community. I doubt
that any other naturist resort can boast this degree of
participation; it reflects our great spirit. Members who
wish to volunteer to help with the Festival should
attend a Volunteers Coordinating Meeting on
Thursday, February 9th, at 8 pm in the pavilion.
Volunteers are needed for registration, staffing the
NAC/Hospitality Tent, serving buffet meals in the
restaurant, emptying trash cans, parking cars,
checking bathrooms and showers, help setting up AV
equipment and moving chairs. Before attending the
meeting, I suggest that volunteers check the Festival
schedule so that you don't volunteer for a time when
you want to take part in an activity. An updated
schedule of activities is on Sunsport's web site,
www.sunsportgardens.com. As a thank you, any
Sunsport member volunteering at least 5 hours
during the Festival will have Festival registration fees
waived.
On January 27, acclaimed photographer Jock
Sturges visited Sunsport. Jock was harassed for
years for publishing his natural photos of nude
children. He was attacked by bigots and won
financially and emotionally draining state and federal
legal actions. Prosecutors (or persecutors) were
never able to convince a Grand Jury to indict him. It
is because of Jock's principled resistance that
Sunsport is able to accurately portray family naturism
including photos from our wonderful Youth Camp on
our website and the Naturist Society is able to include
photos of happy naturist children in N Magazine.
While at Sunsport, Jock presented an impromptu
slide show of his impressive work to a number of
members. Sunsport proudly displays one of Jock's
photos in the restaurant.
On January 21-22, 33 people using 5 courts
competed in the first Petanque Tournament of the
year. A Volleyball Tournament will be held Sunday,
February 26th. Register with Jacque LeBlanc, Tex
Reutter or Bernie Snyder to participate.
PETANQUE 2012
By Robert 55
Once again this year, the petanque tournament was a great success. The temperature was very nice. 33
players participated at the annual tournament. A special thank you for the excellent work by the
organizers. Congratulations to the winning team who each received a trophy which were appreciated;
hopefully we will continue having trophies at future tournaments. Thanks to all who participated.
P.S. Sunsport graciously supplied the material needed for two volunteers to construct a Bean Bag Toss
game. It is available in the laundry room while the bean bags and rules are available at the reception
office.
