Welcome
to the QSO 2012 Education Season
this year, Queensland Symphony Orchestra will
take the teachers and students of Queensland
on a musical adventure.
As you turn the pages of our 2012 Education Season
brochure, discover the enchanting repertoire of music
that is sure to inspire Queensland’s aspiring musicians,
students and teachers. With popular music scores and
classic works from acclaimed composers, the 2012
education season will expand students’ imaginations to
follow their dreams as they follow QSO on a new journey.
Once upon a time in 1977, QSO moved to the Ferry
Road Studio in West End. In 2012, QSO will move to a
new home, in the land where musical legends are made,
between the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and
the Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium. As
we embark on the trail to South Bank, QSO welcomes
our friends and folk from all over Queensland to join us
in our new rehearsal and performance space.
Our website, Facebook and Twitter pages allow you to
follow the QSO story with secret, behind the scenes
photos, information and competitions. For more
information or to sign up for regular email updates
please log onto www.qso.com.au.
We hope you join us at one of our education concerts,
open rehearsals or daytime and evening main stage
concerts throughout 2012. QSO values the musical
education of all students in Queensland and we encourage
them to live the music and experience the magic of
Queensland’s only full-time professional orchestra.

Plan your journey
in 2012 the Queensland Symphony Orchestra is
excited to create a new chapter as we move to our
new home in the heart of South Bank. Nestled between the
Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium of Music
and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, QSO’s new
studio will be well placed in the heart of Brisbane’s cultural
precinct. Teachers can take advantage of this new location
by partnering other arts experiences with a trip to see QSO
perform live.

Aspirations concert conducted by Sarah-Grace Williams.

Follow the musical trail into the depths of the rehearsal rooms
where you will find the Queensland Symphony Orchestra
adding the finishing touches to its performances. The mysteries of
the orchestra are solved when the doors are swung open to include
you in a close-up experience of a lifetime. Add a chapter to your
musical story when you learn about the lifestyle of the musicians
during a question and answer session with orchestra personnel.
I watched the Queensland Symphony Orchestra play
and I thought it was absolutely amazing. It gives me
goose bumps seeing and hearing music that has so
much emotion and passion behind it.

QSO 2 U - Artist in Residence Professional Development Day Love to Share?
The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, with
the generous support of Arts Queensland is
excited to announce our Artist in Residence
program with Brisbane State High School.
This project will see members of the
orchestra intensively working with Brisbane
State High School students. Over the course
of this project students can look forward
to tailored lessons, rehearsals and master
classes, QSO small ensemble performances
and attendance at QSO main stage
performances.

Expand your wings and fly with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra by being part of the Young
Instrumentalist Competition in 2012. The winner will transform into the main character and take
centre stage with the Orchestra in a special concert performance in the QPAC Concert Hall.
Eligibility:
Open to secondary students performing on an orchestral instrument (including saxophone) at a
minimum standard of AMEB Grade 7. Audition pieces must be a movement from a standard concerto for
soloist and orchestra. This movement must be no longer than 10 minutes in length.

Competition entry forms can be downloaded from the education section of our website, by phoning
our Education Officer on (07) 3833 5035 or by emailing info@qso.com.au. Entry fee $40.

from a variety of settings including music written for ballet and opera and the big screen. Don’t miss this

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra is
