INSPIRATION & MOTIVATION
Designer Jaye Niemi lives by a sound philosophy - pleasure comes from doing simple things, beautifully.

Jaye Niemi, an interior perfume stylist, has been scenting living environments (homes
offices hotels etc) for over 15 years. Her expertise is specifically in the interior perfume
industry and she is a recognised specialist in this field. Jaye’s experience differs
from traditional aromatherapists and perfumers in that she has been entirely focused
on the art of scenting the living environment. Her passion, expertise and complete
focus is on the feelings, enjoyment and moods created by using beautiful aromas
in the right areas and for the right occasion. Her love of design has meant
delivering these scents in the most stylish and innovative ways.

This marvelous little gland is
responsible for providing us
with so much pleasure, for it is
the gland that detects all those
wonderful (and not so wonderful)
scents. But it’s very delicate!
Too much scent in a short space
of time or not enough variety will
cause it to become saturated
resulting in a temporary inability to
detect all or some fragrances. This
is known as ‘olfactory fatigue”. To
avoid the disappointment of not
being able to detect our favourite

A simple, stylish method of introducing fragrance to your home or office, designed for ambient, background
fragrancing, detected as you and the air currents move throughout your space.
This deceptively simple design works by diffusion. Specially prepared reed act as wicks, absorbing and releasing the
exquisite fragrances gradually into your environment. Simply place the prepared reeds into the bottle and allow the
delicious aroma to permeate your space. Control the level of fragrance emitted by flipping, or inverting as many reeds
as often as you require.
ASSEMBLING AND USING JAYE NIEMI AROMA REEDS
1 Remove plug and replace cap, screwing firmly onto bottle.
2 Insert Prepared Reeds and twist them to splay attractively.
3 Leave overnight then flip Reeds. Repeat 2-3 times initially to allow fragrance to saturate Reeds. Continue to
flip all or some of the Reeds to achieve your desired fragrance intensity. The perfume will mellow and darken
naturally and beautifully as evaporation occurs.

Essential oils and perfume are very delicate and oxidise or ‘go off’ very quickly. Sunlight, oxygen and foreign matter

DESIGN + CREATION
For a scented candle to be truly beautiful, it must smell exquisite, be visually enticing, maintain its beauty for the life of
the candle, and of course be harmless. Careful design and stringent guidelines must be followed. Nothing has been
spared in the creation of our candles.
WAX, WICK AND AROMA
Our wax is a creamy blend of 100% botanical waxes (from plants) and contains absolutely no paraffin (from petroleum),
so no black soot or harmful fumes. The creamy texture and colour variations are a natural result of the combination of
waxes. An artful blend of delicate perfumes and essential oils saturate the wax ensuring a delicious scent. The botanical
waxes and oils mean our candles burn at lower temperatures; as the scent continues to develop, even the most
delicate scent notes are detectable for the life of the candle. Jaye Niemi candles are created using 100% cotton wicks
and pre-coated in wax to give it the strength needed to “stand” during creation, not relying on lead or plastics. Each
candle is individually hand poured and finished.
CARING FOR YOUR CANDLE
• Glass and molten wax can be hot, please handle with care
• Never leave a candle burning unattended
• Burn candle for a minimum of 3 hours each time
• Keep wick trimmed to approx 1 cm and burn away from drafts
• Store your candle upright and out of direct sunlight
• To snuff your candle, dip lit wick into the melt pool

Essential oils and fine fragrance are very delicate and one of the quickest ways
to destroy them, ironically is by adding heat! Our own blend of botanical waxes
burns at a lower temperature than most waxes. This means the delicate top
notes (often lost once a candle is lit) are detected beautifully. The result is
not only a stronger fragrance, but a more sophisticated aroma because the full
scent can be enjoyed - from the heady top notes right through to the weighty
base notes. A cooler flame means a cooler glass jar and a safer candle.

A combination of soft gentle balancing essential oils to assist in creating a calm peaceful ambience for mothers and new arrivals.
THE FRAGRANCE - LAVENDER, MANDARIN + ROMAN CHAMOMILE
The J-Baby range is saturated with essential oils of Lavender Mt Blanc, Rose Geranium, and precious Roman Chamomile (long
used to help settle new borns) and lifted gently with oils of Bergamot, Mandarin and Orange and finally drawn together with
the ancient oil of Frankincense. The scent level has been carefully developed so as not to overpower the sensitive noses of
babies, yet available to the olfactory gland just enough to achieve the desired results. This is one of the fragrances we are

WHY ARE SOME FRAGRANCES STRONGER OR LAST LONGER THAN OTHERS?
Essential oils and perfumes naturally vary in scent strength. Generally, light, fresh, green fragrances are more volatile and
disappear quicker, while heady, musky, woody fragrances tend to linger in the atmosphere.
ARE THERE RULES TO FOLLOW WHEN SELECTING FRAGRANCE FOR SPECIFIC AREA?
General speaking, if you love the scent, use it. An exception is sleeping environments; strong, heady scents and invigorating
scents should be avoided. Refer to each product listing for tips on selecting fragrance.
WHY DO I STOP DETECTING SCENT AFTER TESTING A FEW FRAGRANCES?
Our olfactory glands become saturated after smelling approximately three different scents in a row. Sniffing fresh coffee beans
will help neutralise your olfactory glands. Untreated sheep’s wool is also very effective - lanolin is a great olfactory neutralizer.
WHY DOES THE SAME SCENT SMELL DIFFERENT IN EACH OF THE THREE PRODUCTS?
Each method of delivering scent (ie Aroma Reeds, Candles + Room Mists) will have an effect on the fragrance, especially the
scented candles as heat can have a dramatic effect on scent. Additional to this we enhance and lower certain scent notes
in all three products to guarantee the effectiveness as some scent ingredients will not burn for example. It is for this reason
we encourage testing the scent in the product before selecting it. Many people may have a favourite scent in one product
and a different favourite in another.
WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCES THE LEVEL OF SCENT DETECTED?
Large open rooms, breezes + humidity ‘eat-up’ fragrance. Additionally fragrance is subjective - each of us will find certain
fragrances more detectable (or less) than another person.
CAN I USE MY ROOM FRAGRANCE ON MY SKIN AS A PERSONAL PERFUME?
Many people do wear our fragrance and are absolutely delighted with it, however it is good to keep in mind we have not tested
them for this purpose.
HOW LONG WILL MY CANDLE BURN FOR?
Jaye Niemi Scented Candles will burn for 50 hours and the scent will stay deliciously beautiful for the life of the candle.
ARE REFILLS AVAILABLE FOR THE AROMA REEDS
We do not offer refills for a few reasons. The Reeds become saturated by the end of the bottle so their effectiveness would be
reduced if wicking a second bottle, and the delicate fragrance stores best in glass. Therefore we would still need to provide a packaged
glass refill and Prepared Reeds.
DO I NEED TO LEAVE ALL THE REEDS IN MY AROMA REEDS BOTTLE?
Yes. The reeds fit tightly in the cap (approx 9-10) and this helps keep out insects and reduces oxygen from entering the bottle. To
reduce the scent emitted, only flip 1 or 2 reeds at a time.
THE PERFUME HAS CHANGED COLOUR. IS THIS NORMAL?
Yes (providing you have not stored the fragrance in direct sunlight and only used Jaye Niemi reeds). With use the perfumes naturally
deepen in colour, particularly noticeable in our Tuberose + Sandalwood fragrance. It contains vanilla essential oil which naturally
darkens once exposed to light. This is natural and does not affect the scent.
DOES THE FRAGRANCE CHANGE ONCE OPEN?
Yes. The scent will continue to mature once the fragrance has saturated the reeds and you will notice fragrance that has been in use
will have a ‘deeper’ scent than a freshly opened bottle.
HOW LONG WILL REEDS LAST AND WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE:
Once in use, approx. 6 months. Many factors effect the evaporation rate i.e. hot dry weather, air-conditioning, drafts etc. Due to
the high content of essential oils we encourage unopened bottles be used within 2.5 years.
MY CANDLE HAS CHANGED COLOUR SLIGHTLY. WHY?
Our candles contain no colouring agent so the change is simply the fragrance deepening in colour after being exposed to light and
on the top where it is also exposed to oxygen. This is perfectly normal and has absolutely no effect on the scent or burn quality.
AFTER BURNING, MY CANDLE DEVELOPS A LUMPY SURFACE. IS THIS NORMAL?
Yes. Our botanical waxes behave very differently to paraffin waxes. The “buttery” texture of our botanical wax combined with the
fragrances will cool leaving a slightly lumpy surface.
