Please note
• A fee is payable with this application.
• It is in your interest to ensure ship identifiers are taken from the ship
(not paperwork or previous registration).
• All ships including hovercrafts with a motor of 3kw (over 4hp) and over
must be registered.
• Capacity labels must be displayed on all registrable recreational vessels
except sailing vessels (powered or otherwise).
• The owner/master is responsible for attaching the capacity label to the boat
before it enters the water.
• The owner/master of the personal watercraft (PWC) must ensure a Ride
Smart sticker is displayed.
• It is an offence to operate a PWC without a Ride Smart sticker displayed.
• The owner/master of a ship must not operate a ship unless the ship is safe.
A ship is safe if it is seaworthy and is appropriately equipped and crewed,
to meet the ordinary perils of the voyage on which the ship is proceeding or
about to proceed.
• An Australian Builders Plate is required on ships built and offered for sale
after 28 September 2006.

Proof of origin of the ship (this may be a Bill of Sale; Certificate of Registration;
receipt from an auction; beneficiary of estate; etc.) if the Department of Transport
and Main Roads has no record of previous registration.

Ships over 15m in length must complete an Application for New or Transfer of
Ownership or Change of particulars of Recreational Ships 15 metres in length and
over (F4367) and have it stamped by Marine Safety Queensland prior to registration.

Exemptions - Fuel system only
1. A new ship, never registered anywhere and fitted with a
Gas Compliance Plate.
2. Registering an unregistered ship in the same name that
it was previously registered.
3. Remote areas (contact the Department of Transport and
Main Roads Customer Service Centre).
4. Dealer demonstration ship.
