EDITORIAL
Showrooms for top fashion brands enjoy a long-standing tradition in the
well-known mets. A general rise in the offer of fashion brought with it also a rise
in the number of showrooms of designers and manufacturers of top fashion
throughout the whole of Europe.
A new era commenced in 1983 in Düsseldorf/Germany, until then known as the
“German fashion capital“ for its unique shopping mile, the “Königsallee (Kö)“,
as well as the fashion fairs organised by “Igedo“: “Fashion Square“ was the
name we gave to the showrooms that we developed, initially established in
Düsseldorf-Golzheim – all within walking distance to one another. The concept
was instantly well-received and international designers, manufacturers as well
as agents established themselves in Art Nouveau mansions and modern
buildings. Whereas to date, 70% of the showrooms are still based here, others
have found their domicile at the “MedienHafen”, in “Derendorf“ and others in
“downtown”. In their entirety they make up the “Showrooms Düsseldorf“.
Today, over 50 individual buildings accommodate more than 400 showrooms,
providing a net surface area of around 70,000 m². This is where buyers can source
1,500 labels of the world’s most renowned 1,000 designers/manufacturers.
40% of the collections originate from Italy, while German collections make up
25%, and UK, France and USA each stand for 8–10% of the available offer.
A total 25 countries participate.
We have developed the “Guide“ further, originally designed for Düsseldorf only,
and introduce our 30 th edition to the international scene as
“THE GUIDE – FASHION SHOWROOMS DIRECTORY“.
This “Guide“ is an information and image brochure in which designers/
manufacturers/agents who are “members“ can present themselves to their
community in many different ways. 20,000 copies are printed, of which 9,000 will
be mailed to selected European buyers. Over 100 international journalists each
receive a copy, with further Guides distributed during the order season in
Düsseldorf, Munich, Milan and Paris.
The “Guide“ includes the Internet presentation, which is published in 9 (!)
languages and supplies details about leading designers/manufacturers, their
philosophy, their collections and in particular, their showroom locations. Of
special interest to buyers and the “virtual market square“ is merely a click away:
