My name is Stephanie Aviles and I am a Freshman MSI at TCU.This summer I will be going to Tanzania with the humanitarian group Cross-Cultural Solutions. I am very excited, for many reasons. First, it will be my very first trip to Africa. While I have been to most of Europe due to my father's duty stations, I have never been to Africa. I've always wanted to go, not just for the travel experience, but for the learning aspect. I am ready to learn about a new culture, and to expand my global knowledge. Second, I am extremely excited to give back to the global community. Not only is this a learning experience for me, but I will hopefully also be able to help the community and give back some of what I have been blessed with. I hope that this CULP experience is something that I will remember for the rest of my life, that will keep me humble, and something that I hope others can experience at some point as well. Stephanie Aviles I have been selected to deploy to Xian, China on a humanitarian assistance mission for the US <strong>Army</strong> Cadet Command CULP program. CULP stands for Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency program and I was fortunate enough to be given this opportunity after submitting an online application and instructor reference. As far as I know, the CULP slots were awarded on a competitive basis and take into account several factors, such as GPA, physical fitness, an essay and other pertinent selection criteria. I will be immersed in the reality of how China's lifestyles, economic standing and world perspective differs from ours and I am extremely excited to go since I am of Chinese descent. I will be traveling in a small team led by a senior leader cadre. This trip consists of 9 cadets and 1 cadre member traveling in conjunction with a civilian agency or non-governmental agency. The trip lasts one month, which encompasses the deployment as well as a five-day Soldier readiness process. I hope to take out of this program a better understanding for Chinese values and the chance to represent the United States on a goodwill mission. After the trip I plan to brief my peers and cadre about my experiences and what I have learned in order to enlighten my fellow Americans about a country that has a vastly different society then we do. Ultimately, I want to utilize the knowledge I have gained from this trip to shore up relations in the future between China and the U.S. James Liu I will be traveling to Brazil this summer. I am really excited to visit South America and be emerged in a completely new culture. I am hoping to try new food, travel and go on adventures, be pushed out of my comfort zone, and meet really amazing people. I know that when I return to the United States I am not going to be the same person. I have traveled abroad before and every experience that I have spent in another culture has made me grow as a person. My goals are to take advantage of any opportunity to travel around the country, and take lots of pictures. Desiree D. Ortiz

Justin Agnew, MS I In years past, we have had the luxury of contracting and commissioning as many qualified, quality cadets that we could train. Unfortunately, we are now limited in the number of cadets we are allowed to contract, thus reducing our contracting ability. Although we would love to keep every quality cadet in our program, it is just not going to be possible. Contracting is an honor and a privilege that only a few will be able to say they have done. Eddie Smith Enrollment Officer What does that mean to you as a non-contracted cadet? You are going to have to show your best effort at all times. There is no room for you to be absent from physical training, class, lab, or volunteer events. We are looking for the best of the best. Is that you? If so, prove it! Always have your game face on. We are always evaluating you. I will do my best to contract as many qualified, quality cadets as possible.
