Archived Databases- Thanks to the good folks at the U.S. National Archives & Records Administration (NARA),
Internet users can access hundreds of data files containing millions of records. This site is a must- search for the
serious researcher, genealogist, or snoop. Be sure to click the "Getting Started" link before you -- well, before you
get started, because accessing the database can be a bit confusing at first. http://aad.archives.gov/aad/index.jsp
Bioengineering for Erosion Control and Aesthetic Appeal (Landscape Design/Build, May 30, 2006). “Using
live plantings to control erosion and stabilize shorelines is not a new concept. In fact, the technique can be traced
as far back as 28 BC in China where there are accounts of people planting willow sprigs on the banks of dikes
and streams to help repair and prevent erosion. Today, the technique is gaining more attention as a cost effective
method for not only keeping accelerated levels of sediment from entering our streams and lakes, but also for
using the plants as elements of the design that provide aesthetic beauty and ecological diversity to the
landscape…When developing a planting plan for a bioengineering project, it is essential to understand the
potential water fluctuation scenarios and also to select plants that will thrive under the conditions…However, it is
important to understand both the hydrological conditions of the site and the hydrologic requirements of the plants
that are going to be used.” To read the entire article, visit http://www.landscapedesignbuild.com/ldb/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=327669.
