<strong>Takata</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>release</strong> Japan’s <strong>first</strong> <strong>ISOFIX</strong> <strong>child</strong> <strong>seat</strong> <strong>which</strong> <strong>can</strong> <strong>be</strong><br />

directly secured <strong>to</strong> vehicle<br />

Launched commercially April 2013<br />

Tokyo, April 26, 2013—<strong>Takata</strong> Corporation, a leading global supplier of au<strong>to</strong>motive<br />

safety systems such as <strong>seat</strong> <strong>be</strong>lts, airbags and <strong>child</strong> <strong>seat</strong>s, has announced the<br />

commercial launch of “takata312- ifix junior”, a high-spec junior car <strong>seat</strong> <strong>which</strong> <strong>can</strong> <strong>be</strong><br />

directly secured <strong>to</strong> the vehicle. The product provides side-impact protection, and <strong>can</strong> <strong>be</strong><br />

adjusted <strong>to</strong> fit <strong>child</strong>ren as they grow. The product will <strong>be</strong> available in Japan from the end<br />

of April 2013.<br />

“takata312- ifix junior” is a junior <strong>seat</strong> <strong>which</strong> <strong>can</strong> <strong>be</strong> used by <strong>child</strong>ren aged <strong>be</strong>tween 3 and<br />

12 years old (15-36kg). The <strong>seat</strong> features a side guard <strong>to</strong> protect the head, shoulder and<br />

lower back area, and provides protection in side impacts <strong>which</strong> pose a high risk of injury<br />

<strong>to</strong> the passenger. The most unique feature of the product is its ability <strong>to</strong> <strong>be</strong> secured<br />

directly <strong>to</strong> the vehicle’s <strong>ISOFIX</strong> bar, the <strong>first</strong> junior <strong>seat</strong> in Japan with this function* 1 .<br />

* 1 Based on research by <strong>Takata</strong> (April 2013)<br />

Traditional junior <strong>seat</strong>s are placed directly on the vehicle <strong>seat</strong>, and are secured in place<br />

with the <strong>child</strong> <strong>seat</strong>ed inside using the vehicle’s <strong>seat</strong><strong>be</strong>lt. When the <strong>child</strong> is out of the <strong>seat</strong>,<br />

the <strong>seat</strong> is not secured in place, and even with the <strong>child</strong> <strong>seat</strong>ed, the <strong>seat</strong> <strong>can</strong> often<br />

<strong>be</strong>come unstable.<br />

The “takata312- ifix junior” is secured in place using special connec<strong>to</strong>rs* 2 fitted <strong>to</strong> the<br />

<strong>child</strong> <strong>seat</strong>, <strong>which</strong> connect directly <strong>to</strong> the vehicle’s <strong>ISOFIX</strong> bar, preventing any instability.<br />

By providing a more comfortable ride for <strong>child</strong>ren, <strong>Takata</strong> hopes <strong>to</strong> help improve the rate<br />

of junior <strong>seat</strong> use in Japan, <strong>which</strong> is currently only 37.2%* 3 .<br />

* 2 Can <strong>be</strong> connected <strong>to</strong> a vehicle <strong>seat</strong> without an <strong>ISOFIX</strong> bar installed, if a connec<strong>to</strong>r is used<br />

* 3 Based on a nationwide survey conducted by the National Police Agency and JAF last year<br />

<strong>Takata</strong> <strong>be</strong>lieves that the junior <strong>seat</strong> is a safety component <strong>which</strong> essentially functions as<br />

a <strong>seat</strong><strong>be</strong>lt for <strong>child</strong>ren.<br />

As a leading global supplier of au<strong>to</strong>motive safety systems, <strong>Takata</strong> aims <strong>to</strong> continuously<br />

take <strong>child</strong> <strong>seat</strong> safety <strong>to</strong> the next level as it works <strong>to</strong> develop and improve safety<br />

systems.<br />
