Takata to release Japan’s first ISOFIX child seat which can be
directly secured to vehicle
Launched commercially April 2013
Tokyo, April 26, 2013—Takata Corporation, a leading global supplier of automotive
safety systems such as seat belts, airbags and child seats, has announced the
commercial launch of “takata312- ifix junior”, a high-spec junior car seat which can be
directly secured to the vehicle. The product provides side-impact protection, and can be
adjusted to fit children as they grow. The product will be available in Japan from the end
of April 2013.
“takata312- ifix junior” is a junior seat which can be used by children aged between 3 and
12 years old (15-36kg). The seat features a side guard to protect the head, shoulder and
lower back area, and provides protection in side impacts which pose a high risk of injury
to the passenger. The most unique feature of the product is its ability to be secured
directly to the vehicle’s ISOFIX bar, the first junior seat in Japan with this function* 1 .

Traditional junior seats are placed directly on the vehicle seat, and are secured in place
with the child seated inside using the vehicle’s seatbelt. When the child is out of the seat,
the seat is not secured in place, and even with the child seated, the seat can often
become unstable.
The “takata312- ifix junior” is secured in place using special connectors* 2 fitted to the
child seat, which connect directly to the vehicle’s ISOFIX bar, preventing any instability.
By providing a more comfortable ride for children, Takata hopes to help improve the rate
of junior seat use in Japan, which is currently only 37.2%* 3 .

Takata believes that the junior seat is a safety component which essentially functions as
a seatbelt for children.
