<strong>Group</strong> <strong>Exercise</strong> at the <strong>YMCA</strong> – How we work!<br />

Some classes are free to our members. There is no mandatory sign-up for these classes; you may just<br />

come to any class that you desire. There is a day-ahead reservation option for Cycling and Zumba<br />

classes; se the back of the <strong>Group</strong> <strong>Exercise</strong> schedule for information on that. Please always sign the<br />

attendance binder for every class that you attend.<br />

Some classes cost us extra money to run, so our members pay a fee to participate. <strong>Class</strong>es in this<br />

category include belly dancing, yoga, Pilates, kettlebell, TRX, and small group personal training classes<br />

like Women On Weights. These Specialty classes run in 6 or 5 week sessions; members must preregister<br />

for these classes.<br />

Summer Session I for Specialty classes is 6 weeks long and runs from June 18-July 29.<br />

Summer Session II for Specialty classes is 5 weeks long and runs from July 30-Sept. 2.<br />

All You - Who needs equipment when you have the most versatile of all exercise tools – your own body?<br />

This class changes your physique through cardio and strength movements that use only your own body<br />

for resistance. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Belly Dance for Fun and Fitness - Experience the world's oldest dance by burning calories and having<br />

fun! Middle Eastern dance offers both physical (isometric and aerobic) and psychological (stress relief,<br />

heightened self-esteem) benefits. Learn head, arm, chest, hip movements, traveling steps, shimmies, veil<br />

and more! No experience necessary! NO CLASSES JULY 4 AND 7. 5 week Session Fee one class a<br />

week: $25 Members; $50 Program Members Prior registration required.

Boot Camp - Calling all diehards - drop and give me 20! This total body workout contains sports<br />

conditioning moves, calisthenics, and invigorating drills based on speed, power, and agility. No<br />

coordination required ... no choreography allowed! This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Cardio/Sculpt - Need a time-efficient workout? You’ll get cardio, sculpting, core strength, and flexibility -<br />

each class is always different, always challenging, and always fun. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Dance Jam - Join the <strong>YMCA</strong> party in this class that mixes modern dance, funk, and blast-from-the-past<br />

line dancing. Come dance your cares – and your calories – away! This class is FREE for our members.<br />

<strong>Family</strong> Fun Fitness - Come and find out how much fun you can have being physically active as a family.<br />

Dads, moms and kids explore fitness and well-being through a variety of exercise formats and toys.<br />

Children must be accompanied by an adult. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Fitness After 50 – BEGINS JUNE 19! - Using music from Sinatra to Swing to the Supremes, this<br />

comprehensive class has low-impact cardiovascular conditioning, muscular strength work, and flexibility<br />

and range-of-motion exercises. We also do exercises designed to improve balance, coordination, manual<br />

dexterity, and agility (both physical and mental). Your heart, lungs, muscles, balance, and energy will all<br />

improve – and you’ll have lots of fun along the way! This intermediate-level class is for adults 50 and<br />

better. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Kettlebell Challenge - “Twice the results in half the time.” That is what the America Council on <strong>Exercise</strong><br />

calls kettlebell training. Bringing cardio, strength, flexibility, and balance training together in one<br />

amazingly effective workout, kettlebell training is the hottest trend in fitness. Come see why – and your<br />

body will never be the same. This small-group class is suitable for men and women with intermediate to<br />

advanced fitness levels. 6 Week Session Fee one class a week: $30 Members; $60 Program Members<br />

Prior registration required.<br />

Machine Power - Taught in the fitness machine area of the Wellness Center, this class combines the<br />

best of an individualized workout with the fun of an instructor-driven class. You will travel to different<br />

cardio machines in a directed class format while the instructor provides challenge, motivation, and fun.<br />

Banish treadmill boredom once and for all! Meet at the Wellness Desk. <strong>Class</strong> spaces are limited. This<br />

class is FREE for our members.<br />

On the Ball - This challenging conditioning class will have you using a large stability ball to strengthen<br />

and tone all major muscle groups. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Personal Training – Individual Stop wasting your time; it’s time to take your training to a higher level.<br />

Our certified personal trainers use their knowledge of proven exercise principles and specialized training<br />

techniques to help you achieve your goals. Your personal trainer will design and implement a program<br />

customized to your unique physical condition, goals and preferences. Fees vary according to package<br />

Personal Training – <strong>Group</strong> Gather a friend or two and work as a team under the guidance of a<br />

professional. Our certified personal trainers use their knowledge of proven exercise principles and<br />

specialized training techniques to help all of you achieve your goals. Your personal trainer will design and<br />

implement a program customized to the desires of your group. Package fee is PER PERSON. Ask for a<br />

Power Sculpt - Sculpt your body from head to toe using weights, tubing, bands, balls and more.<br />

Strengthen and define your muscles, lose fat, and increase your metabolism as you chisel the body of<br />

your dreams. This class is FREE for our members.

Punch & Crunch - What do you get when you combine the best of fun, energetic cardio-kickboxing with a<br />

focused abdominal and core workout? You get a knockout workout that delivers a one-two punch to your<br />

fat while kicking up the strength of your midsection. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

SilverSneakers ® Muscular Strength - Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises<br />

designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held<br />

weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated<br />

and/or standing support. This class is open to ALL <strong>YMCA</strong> members and is suitable for beginning-tointermediate<br />

older adult exercisers. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Warrior Workout – Train like a warrior! This class is a combination of cardio, strength, endurance and<br />

self-defense conditioning used by martial artists, boxers, and wrestlers. Learn to focus the spirit, mind and<br />

body towards the attainment of functional health. This class is FREE for our members.<br />

Women On Weights – Ladies – let’s get some estrogen into the weight room! This small group personal<br />

training class is designed to help a woman gain a beautifully sculpted physique while building confidence<br />

with weight training equipment. Each week, the certified personal trainer will teach new exercises and<br />

training techniques. 6 week Session Fee one class a week: $30 Members; $60 Program Members Prior<br />

registration required. No class July 4 – so Wednesday class fee for this session is $25 for Members.<br />

Y Cycle - This indoor cycling class will take you on a ride through the flat lands to the mountain tops.<br />

Come see why it's still the hottest workout trend in years. Since you control your own pace and<br />

resistance, you can make this workout as easy or as challenging as you desire. This class is FREE for<br />

our members.<br />

Yoga - Why is yoga thousands of years old and more popular than ever? Offering you strength,<br />

suppleness, energy and peace, yoga will transform your body and enrich your spirit. Come experience<br />

the harmony of spirit, mind and body. This a 75 minute class. 6 Week Session Fee one class a week: $45<br />

Members; $90 Program Members. Prior registration required.<br />

TRX – Coming soon!<br />

Zumba ® - Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness<br />

program. The routines feature interval-training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance<br />

training are combined to tone your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest<br />

into the mix and you've got Zumba ® ! This class is FREE for our members.<br />

HOLIDAY NOTE: On Wednesday, July 4, the <strong>YMCA</strong> will be open<br />

from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Our regular class schedule does NOT<br />

run on holidays when the <strong>YMCA</strong> is open limited hours. We will be<br />

offering a few FREE classes for you to enjoy on July 4 --- watch<br />

for announcements the week before!

Helpful Information ……..<br />

v A <strong>YMCA</strong> EXCLUSIVE opportunity ----- Our “Tween Option” classes!<br />

<strong>Class</strong>es designated as “Tween Option” are regular adult-level (not child’s) classes; they are<br />

not lessened in any way, so adult participants get an effective workout. What makes<br />

“Tween-Option” classes special is that children ages 10 and up may participate at that<br />

time IF (1) the parent exercises along side the child, (2) the child can exercise safely in the<br />

class, and (3) the child is not disruptive in any way to the instructor or the adults in the<br />

room. For the safety of the child and the effectiveness of the class, the instructor has final<br />

authority to determine if the child is ready for the class environment at this time.<br />

v Unless ages are noted, classes are open to our members age 13 and up.<br />

v If you wish to set aside a place in a Zumba or Cycling class, you may reserve your spot up to<br />

one day in advance by calling 216-518-9622 or signing the reservation binder located at<br />

the first floor welcome desk. You must be inside the exercise studio absolutely no later than<br />

exactly 5 minutes before class is scheduled to begin; if not, you forfeit your reservation and<br />

your spot will be given to whomever is waiting by the studio door.<br />

v Express classes are time-efficient workouts lasting less than 30 minutes.<br />

v Please bring with you a sweat towel and a water bottle. Wear clean, dry athletic shoes and<br />

comfortable, breathable, modest clothing. Shoes must be safe and designed for exercise<br />

(no open toes or heels).<br />

v You may store personal items (purses, shoes, gym bags, etc.) in a locker or in the cubbies.<br />

To ensure safety for our members, we keep the floors clear of all personal items.<br />

v Please arrive in the studio at least 5 minutes BEFORE the designated start time. The warmup<br />

is one of the most important parts of every class. Our instructors show respect to our<br />

members by beginning and ending classes on time.<br />

v Your well-being is in expert hands! All <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>Group</strong> <strong>Exercise</strong> instructors are nationally<br />

certified and trained in <strong>Group</strong> <strong>Exercise</strong> and specialty areas, CPR/AED for<br />

Adults/Children/Infants, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration.<br />

v We listen carefully to our members, so our class menu changes to reflect their wishes.<br />

Please check often for schedule changes posted on our website and in our branch.<br />
