The <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dentistry</strong> educates the state’s future<br />

dentists and dental specialists through its 16 degree and<br />

certificate programs. Each year the college admits a new<br />

class <strong>of</strong> about 80 D.M.D. students consisting <strong>of</strong> individuals<br />

who are among the top predental students in the<br />

nation. In the past year the college has experienced a<br />

40 percent increase in the number <strong>of</strong> applicants to its<br />

D.M.D. program, and the class entering in the fall <strong>of</strong><br />

Academic credentials <strong>of</strong> students applying<br />

and enrolling in the D.M.D. program<br />

2004 was selected from a group <strong>of</strong> nearly 1,000<br />

applicants. Students’ performance on standardized<br />

examinations is a benchmark <strong>of</strong> the quality <strong>of</strong> our<br />

academic programs. The performance <strong>of</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong><br />

2006 on the NBDE – Part I was ranked 6th out <strong>of</strong> the<br />

56 participating dental school classes. Concurrently, the<br />

Class <strong>of</strong> 2004 achieved a ranking <strong>of</strong> 21 out <strong>of</strong> 54 dental<br />

schools on its performance on the NBDE – Part II.<br />
