EDUCATION More than 90 percent of UFCD graduates remain in Florida to practice and 60 percent of all practicing dentists in the state graduated from UFCD The College of Dentistry educates the state’s future dentists and dental specialists through its 16 degree and certificate programs. Each year the college admits a new class of about 80 D.M.D. students consisting of individuals who are among the top predental students in the nation. Students’ performance on standardized examinations is a benchmark of the quality of our academic programs. The performance of the Class of 2006 on the NBDE – Part I was ranked 6th out of the 56 participating dental school classes. Concurrently, the Class of 2004 achieved a ranking of 21 out of 54 dental schools on its performance on the NBDE – Part II. Andrew Abel Dental Scholarship Fund Dental students who require financial assistance and display excellence in their academic and/or clinical endeavors are eligible to apply for the scholarship assistance. • A total of $12,000 was awarded to six students. Krisia and Steve Rhoden Memorial Scholarship Fund Students in the College of Dentistry, with special consideration to students from the Caribbean nations, including but not limited to Jamaica, are eligible to apply for the Rhoden Scholarship. • One student was awarded a total of $8,694. Reid Scholarship in Dentistry Fund Needy dental students with high scholastic averages are eligible to apply for the Reid Scholarship. • One student received an award of $4,000. * Awards listed are predoctoral awards only and do not include loans or awards specific to departments.
