Soccer and FIFA:
Who is the better signing: Mandzukic to Atletico or Lewandowski to Bayern Munich
vs
Both these clinical finishers have moved club this current transfer season, but wich one will have
the better season, which one will produce more goals and which one will settle in better?
Mario Mandzukic , Croatian international, striker, 1.87m and is 28 years old.
Mario was recently picked up by Spanish side Atletico Madrid for a reported amount of €22 million. Reports say he has settled in
well, but it all depends on the performances on the pitch.
Firstly Mandzukic brings many positives to the Atletico.Last Season Mario Mandzukic scored 25 goals in total in all competitions.
He picked up 8 yellow cards and a red card. He played 48 games the entire season including international duties. Another
positive factor about his game style is that being a prolific goalscorer, he is known for his great defensive contribution and being
an aerial threat. He earns an annual of 5 million EUROS and 23 million Euros at the end of his contract. He signed a contract that
links him to Atletico for 4 years.
Secondly , Mandzukic has been known for being an aerial threat in the box. He has scored many of the goals in his career are
from headers. He can reach any header because of his ability to get his head to the ball in most situations and also how he is so
tall. According to WhoScored.com, he is good at holding onto the ball and finishing off the play with a strong boot.
Lastly, Mandzukic is getting older, but he is gaining more experience as he moves from club to club. In the near future I could see
him continuing to play amongst the young undeveloped players. He shows leadership among the team and steps up to take
responsibility when all seems bad. He never gives up as a player within a team and gives things his all.
The 28yearold has won two Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and two DFBPokal’s with Bayern since joining the
Bavarians from Wolfsburg in 2012. He has played in 9 clubs altogether excluding international team call ups. He is second on the
most teams played for list losing to Zlatan Ibrahimovic with staggering 10 clubs beside his name.
Robert Lewandowski, Poland International , striker, 1.84 m and 26 years old.Robert, snapped up by rivals
Bayern Munich on free transfer as his contract ran out with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. On
paper, he is a quality striker who brings more depth into the squad.
Lewandowski scored 27 goals in all competitions. He picked up 6 yellow cards, but he had only played 46
games rather than Mandzukic ’s 48. Which meant he had a better record of finding the back of net.He put
the pen to the paper with the Bundesliga champions keeping him at the Allianz Arena for 5
years.Newspaper is reporting he earns at a of wage of £130000 (€156000) per week and an annual wage of
9 million euros!
Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in the world, impressing thousands, if not millions across the
world. He isn’t one of those strikers who waits to receive the ball, but will move around the midfield to collect
the ball and lay off a pass or two to get the ball up the field. He is known for his fantastic passing to create a
movement and create a dangerous attack. If noone is available to pass to, he has the common sense to
have a crack from a long range. He is most known for his lovely dribbling to get passed players. A negative
to his style is that he doesn’t contribute to the defensive side of play in games as he will stay up in the
attack if the ball is in the defensive area.
There are many parts that make Robert Lewandowski wellknown around the world, not only for his
goalscoring ability, but about the way he plays the best sport in the world. Robert is very clever in the way
he can develop such skill in a special style like his. He will allow the opposition defenders to foul him to
receive a free kick, but he doesn’t dive. He is an indirect set piece threat which means he doesn’t really get
on the end of a corner or free kick, but he can do special things with the ball in a one on one situation and
when he participates in defending he doesn’t go straight in to tackle or else he may get skilled easily.
Lewandowski had been close to joining Bayern last summer, but the move eventually fell through as
Dortmund vetoed a move to the Allianz Arena, accepting the fact that they would ultimately lose him for
nothing. Robert Lewandowski is confident his switch to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will help him
become an even better striker. The Pole was officially confirmed as a Bayern player in July after signing a
precontract agreement with the Bavarians in January, ending his prolific fouryear spell with BVB.
The 26yearold netted 103 goals in his time at Signal Iduna Park and, ahead of the DFLSupercup in which
he will face his former club Dortmund on his competitive debut, he stressed his belief he can make further
strides under Pep Guardiola.
The attacker started his professional career at Znicz Pruszkow and also wore the jersey of Lech Poznan
before joining Dortmund in the summer of 2010.
He has since developed into a key player at BVB, helping the Signal Iduna side to two Bundesliga titles, a
DFB Pokal and the DFLSupercup.
Lewandowski follows in the footsteps of Mario Gotze who left Dortmund for Bayern ahead of the 201314
campaign after the European champions agreed to meet the playmaker's €37 million buyout clause.
