conversational Spanish and Mexican culture in Yucatan, Mexico in<br />

1996. Taught Social Science in Francesville, IN. Taught in Colorado<br />

Springs and was middle school principal in Manitou Springs,<br />

Co. K-12 Principal in Wiley, CO. Retired in 1991. Taught CDL<br />

class at Lamar Community <strong>College</strong> to non-English speaking<br />

drivers. Called out of retirement to serve 2 years as Assist. Principal,<br />

Lamar HS. Retired again in 1997. Called to Lamar Middle<br />

School as counselor. Retired again in 2001. Called to serve as<br />

interim Principal, Lincoln Elementary School. Field Supervisor of<br />

student teachers for Adams State <strong>College</strong> 2006-2007. Substitute<br />

teacher/bus driver, Lamar School District since 1994 to present.<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I completed my studies at Arizona State University and graduated<br />

with dual degrees in Math & Physics. I worked as an aeronautical<br />

mathematician for Sperry in Research & Development of flight<br />

control systems. I was thrilled to be part of the team that worked on<br />

the top secret (X-20 Dyna-Soar) project.<br />

I met my future husband at ASU and some years later we began many<br />

transfers with his career – from Phoenix to El Paso, KC, Denver,<br />

Miami, Dallas and finally to Louisville. We decided no more transfers<br />

were in our plans, so we purchased an existing printing company and<br />

became entrepreneurs in 1990. We sold the business in 2001 and Bob<br />

retired,while I continued to work for the buyout company for 4 more<br />

years. I retired in 2005 – now working part time as a receptionist.<br />

Hobbies: Golf, oil painting, reading, traveling, walking,<br />

volunteer work and sharing time with family and friends.<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I started my career in the accounting field in the telephone<br />

industry. Accounting relocations and job changes took me to 3<br />

Iowa cities, London, KY, 2 more Iowa cities, to St Paul, MN, to<br />

St. Louis, to Bakersfield, CA and then to KC area. I have since<br />

retired and am now spending my time in Creston, Iowa. I have a<br />

few clients that I prepare Federal and State Tax returns, so I keep<br />

busy as April approaches.<br />

Hobbies: We enjoy vacationing and especially taking<br />

cruises. We annually take a trip to Estes Park, CO and it is one<br />

of our favorites. Our sons live in MO, KS, CO and Florida, so<br />

trips to those locations are always on our agenda.<br />

in 1979 with child custody of 5 children<br />

Grandchildren – 10 Grandchildren with twins “ in the oven”<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I worked for my father in farming and the farm machinery business.<br />

Then was employeed as a bank examiner in 1965. I attended Wisconsin<br />

Graduate School of Banking in Madison and received a Graduate<br />

Degree in Banking in 1978.<br />

We moved to Gorham, IL in 1973 then to Cambria, IL in 1975. I was<br />

supervisory examiner over the Carbondale district. We then moved<br />

to Ft Branch, IN in 1983 and worked out of the Evansville office until<br />

retirement. I moved back to Marissa in 1995 as an empty-nester and<br />

met and married Margaret.<br />

Hobbies: Antique cars, trucks and farm equipment<br />

surfing the internet.<br />

Additional Information: JoAnn remarried 30 years ago and had 3<br />

more children.


Name: Rudolph J. “Rudy” Kosits<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

In January 1961 prior to graduating, I left <strong>Tarkio</strong> and joined the Marine Corps.<br />

I went to Boot Camp and then Electronics School here in San Diego, where<br />

I met Cheryl at church outside the Marine Corps Base. I was an enlisted<br />

man for 8+ years and Commissioned in May 1969 upon completion of my<br />

BSEE from the University of New Mexico. I spent two tours in the far east in<br />

1963 and 1971 and most of my career on the east coast at Camp Le Jeune, NC;<br />

Quantico, VA; and HQMC in Arlington, VA. I retired as a Captain with<br />

20+ years in July 1981 and returned to San Diego. While still serving in the<br />

Corps, I had received an MA in Counseling from Pepperdine University and<br />

after further post graduate work and internships in 1986 I became licensed<br />

as a Marriage, Family and Child Therpist in CA. I had a private practice for a<br />

short period and have worked with many community based organizations in<br />

San Diego County. In 1993 I began working on the San Diego Suicide and<br />

Mental Health Emergency Phone Hotline. I retired this July 2nd and now<br />

work on-call once a week or so as needed. Cheryl is an Oncology Certified<br />

Nurse with an MS in Nursing Education and is still working full time at the<br />

UCSD Cancer Center. We built the home we live in here in San Diego in<br />

1981-82 and we love our city and our home. We welcome visitors.We<br />

recently took a 16 day land/cruise vacation to Alaska and are anticipating the<br />

birth of our daughter’s baby with great joy.<br />

Hobbies:<br />

I have a stamp collection and several sets of model trains, but most of my<br />

hobby time is spent on PC(USA) business. I was a commissioner to GA in<br />

2001 and have been very active in the Synod of So CA and Hawaii for the<br />

past 8 years. I have been a commissioner to San Diego Presbytery for many<br />

years and have served actively on various committees of Presbytery for 24<br />

consecutive years.

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I went to the Navy Electronics School in Tennessee. I was a<br />

aircrew member in the Navy Air Reserves for 6 years. I was a<br />

flight instructor for 5 years in general aviation and then I taught<br />

for Japan Airlines for 5 years in Napa, California. Then I<br />

worked for Swift Airlines out of San Luis Obispo, CA for 5<br />

years. Next, I worked for 18 years as a Captain for Evergreen<br />

International Airlines flying DC 9’s. I have flown to all 50 states,<br />

Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico and have 27,500 total flying<br />

hours. I retired from Evergreen at age 60 and continued to fly for<br />

private corporations until December 2009.<br />

Hobbies:<br />

Hunting, Fishing and Restoring Old Cars.

Daughter –Laura (married and lived in Rhode Island,<br />

while teaching at Rhode Island <strong>College</strong>. They have since<br />

moved to Denver.)<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I was in education for 35 years. Part of those years teaching in Shawnee<br />

Mission, KS and part of the time (last 20 years) working in Olathe,<br />

KS. In between these 2 jobs I taught 4 years in a private boarding<br />

school in Concord, MASS. I retired in 1996 after teaching biology<br />

and working the last 10 years as the district science coordinator.<br />

Our summers were spent working as a naturalist of the National<br />

Park Service. We spent 9 summers in Acadia National Park in Maine,<br />

5 summers in Bryce Canyon and 2 summers doing a research project<br />

in Pecos National Monument in NM. With the national parks as an<br />

influencing factor, all 3 of our children have degrees in science.<br />

We moved from KS in 2000 (after living there for 36 years) to Bella<br />

Vista, Arkansas. We spend 6 months here and 6 months at our place in<br />

Colorado, so we get to enjoy a wide variety of scenery.<br />

Hobbies:<br />

birding (a hobby since 4th grade), hiking, back packing, reading,<br />

golf, doing stain glass projects and puttering in my garage.

Being on a bowling team. Working for the maintenance department<br />

and cleaning mountains of snow.<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

Immediately after graduating I went to Basic Training at Fort Riley,<br />

Kansas, then spent 6 months active duty at Fort Ord, California and<br />

spend 6 years in the National Guard. I went to work in C.O. Dutton’s<br />

insurance, accounting and income tax office in 1961. I bought the<br />

office in 1969 and owned it until I retired after suffering a massive<br />

stroke in 1999.<br />

Hobbies:<br />

Painting, hard jigsaw puzzles, Western Movies, following<br />

<strong>College</strong> Football and Red Oak High School Volleyball.

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

After graduation from <strong>Tarkio</strong> I spent four years in med school<br />

at the University of Iowa and then a year interning at Wayne Co.<br />

Hospital in Detroit. At that point I was drafted intothe Army<br />

and spent two years at madigan Army Hospital at Fort Lewis<br />

Washington taking care of Vietnam casualties. We moved to<br />

Rochester, MN to start a four year orthopedic surgery residency<br />

at the Mayo Clinic. We were invited to join a practice in<br />

Lakewood, Washington in 1971.<br />

I have served many years as a team physician for Pacific<br />

Lutheran University and local high schools, and volunteered at<br />

Washington State Hospital for 30 years. I also volunteer with the<br />

Caring for Kids program.<br />

I’m working about 20 hours per week having flunked retirement<br />

twice.<br />

Hobbies: Hanging out with family as most of them live within<br />

30 minutes from our home.<br />

I have 2 children and 5 grandchildren (ages from 10 to 2)<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I attended medical school at the University of Missouri in<br />

Columbia, MO. Following graduation from med school, I spent<br />

a year at the U.S. National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda,<br />

Maryland. I then completed training at the US Naval School of<br />

Submarine Medicine in Groton, Connecticut.<br />

After a tour of sea duty, I returned to the School of Submarine<br />

Medicine as an instructor until 1969. Then I began a pediatric<br />

residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Upon<br />

completion we moved to Topeka, KS, where I practiced pediatrics<br />

until 2004. I have since retired.<br />

Hobbies:<br />

Biking, dancing, painting, vacationing, and most importantly<br />

spoiling my wife, Beth and our seven grandchildren<br />

Grandchildren: (7) 6 girls and 1 grandson<br />

Marilyn (Ross ‘61) graduated from Univ. of Nebraska and<br />

taught kindergarten and 3rd grade for 34 years giving us a total<br />

of 75 years in education.<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I have been in the education field for 45 years. I was a teacher<br />

and coach for 4 years. I have been a school administrator for<br />

41 years including 34 years as Superintendent at the Winside<br />

Public School, Winside, NE. I retired in 2000 for 5 years and<br />

went back half time for 5 years. On June 30, 2010 I will be<br />

retiring again for the LAST time.<br />

Marilyn and I will be celebrating our 59th Wedding Anniversary<br />

in August.<br />

Sneaking out of Marshall Hall (in order to be part of the “in crowd”)<br />

and getting called in by Ms. Parrish - the Gestapo-because my partner<br />

in crime blabbed about it :o)<br />

After Leaving <strong>Tarkio</strong>:<br />

I taught English in Glenwood, Iowa and Millard, Nebraska. A job<br />

change for Bud resulted in a transfer to California and after enjoying<br />

the sun and culture for a couple of years, I started graduate school<br />

at Cal State-Fullerton. Soon after I started classes, we were told we<br />

would be transferred again to Ohio, and I finished my graduate degree<br />

at Bowling Green State University. I was a guidance counselor at<br />

Sylvania High School (Ohio) for 3 years. Another job change for<br />

Bud took us to Chicago, and I was fortunate to obtain a counseling<br />

position at Naperville Central High School where I finished out my<br />

35 years in education, I still continue to be involved with the high<br />

school, filling in for extended faculty leaves, supervising the AP<br />

exams and working summer hours.<br />

Hobbies: Family, socializing with friends, travel, cruises, golf,<br />

reading , bridge, coffee groups, walking & exercising, lunches with<br />

friends. My friends also say I run the “Rayma-da Inn”, since I have<br />

so many visitors to the Chicago area.<br />
