A sexually active couple can use various methods to prevent conception if<br />
they do not want a child. <strong>The</strong>se methods are called contraceptives meaning<br />
'against conception'. Using contraceptives that are safe and reliable are a sign<br />
of responsibility and concern for oneself and one's partner.<br />
A mix of methods (eg. Condom + Pessary) is more reliable than using one<br />
method alone. Some methods are given below.<br />
Contraceptives for men<br />
Condoms : A condom is a thin latex sheath to be worn on the penis to prevent<br />
the semen and pre-ejaculate from coming in touch with the partner's body.<br />
Condoms are to be worn every time a man has sex and as soon as he has an<br />
erection. Condoms cannot be reused. Condoms prevent pregnancy and<br />
infections like HIV and STDs.<br />
Scientists are trying to develop male contraceptives in the form of vaccines and<br />
implants that are long-lasting.<br />
How to wear a condom<br />
When the penis is<br />
hard, squeeze the<br />
air out of the tip of<br />
the condom and<br />
place it on the head<br />
of the penis<br />
Hold the tip of the<br />
condom and gently<br />
unroll it completely<br />

when unrolled<br />
After sex carefully withdraw.<br />
Hold the condom at the base<br />
while pulling out to prevent it<br />
from slipping off. Knot and<br />
dispose in a dustbin<br />
