<strong>Tasman</strong> <strong>District</strong>’s biggest town, Richmond, was once a<br />
major commuter port, connecting the productive lands<br />
of early <strong>Tasman</strong> to the markets of Nelson City. <strong>Tasman</strong><br />
<strong>District</strong> <strong>Council</strong> has its headquarters in Richmond and<br />
each year the main regional Nelson Agricultural &<br />
Pastoral Show is held here. Richmond is now emerging<br />
as a major retail and commercial centre in its own right,<br />
with the advantage of free parking (time limited) and<br />
an excellent modern mall that fronts on to the main<br />
street. The new town centre, Sundial Square, provides a<br />
refuge in the midst of the town, with sculpture, seating<br />
and grassed areas. The town’s promotional group holds<br />
several annual events such as the Richmond Market Day<br />
