repair of billet finishing equipment
and controls.
Machine shop
Manufacture and refurbishment
using turning, milling, boring and
grinding equipment.
Fitting and Assembly repair
Overhaul, refurbishment of tooling,
mechanical equipment and
components.
Aldwarke melting shop
Maintenance, fault finding, repair of
melting shop processing equipment
and controls.

The Engineering
Apprenticeship is an
in-depth programme
providing you with the skills
and expertise required to
become a Mechanical or
Electrical Engineer.

What is Mechanical
Engineering?
Mechanical Engineers are responsible for
the maintenance of machinery and
equipment at CES. As an Engineering
Apprentice you would be involved in the
maintenance of the plant to ensure that it
is capable of processing the steel we
require at any time. The apprentice
training course will allow you to gain
knowledge and experience across a wide
range of engineering applications to be
able to perform effectively.
What is Electrical
Engineering?
Electrical Engineers in Corus are
responsible for the control and automation
of heavy industrial plant to ensure that
steel is produced and finished safely and
efficiently. Each department on site has a
dedicated team of electricians. As an
Electrical Apprentice you would work
around the site and day-to-day activities
would include isolating sections of plant,
faultfinding, overhauling and
replacing/rewiring panels and motors.

Mobile plant
Repair, maintenance, fault finding
and overhaul of mobile material
handling equipment and items of
plant on site.
Aldwarke bloom caster
Maintenance, fault finding, repair of
Bloom Caster controls and systems.
Improver Craftsmen Position.

Maintenance, fault finding, repair of
rolling equipment and controls.

supplemented by block release to a
training centre and day release to

The Corus Engineering Steels Advanced
Modern Apprenticeship is a Government
approved scheme leading to Nationally
Recognised Qualifications.
The apprenticeship is delivered in
partnership with local training providers
and colleges.
