On every trip you’ll need a
ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD.
The success – or otherwise – of a trip is also determined by the shape and weight of your tent. This
is something that TATONKA’s tent experts know well, and so they have developed the right tent
for any challenge – from small and light to large and comfortable.
People who want to carry all their equipment on their back are more aware of the weight of the
tent rather than the amount of space it offers. The Kiruna, for instance, in TATONKA’s high-end
line is ideal, as it weighs just 2.25 kg. If you’re travelling alone, the new one-man tent Kyrkja
is even lighter – yet still has enough room to accommodate your luggage.
Travelling with friends or children means having somewhere to withdraw – such as the
Alaska Family DLX tunnel tent, which can accommodate up to 6 people in two separate
sleeping compartments.
In hot and cold areas, the right ventilation is essential. That’s why the outer wall on the Alaska
3 Vent tunnel tent can be rolled up on both sides, and attached at two different heights.
There’s a lot to choose from, and making your decision won’t be easy. Should you have any
questions, the advisors in your store will be pleased to help – so you can be sure of having the
right roof over your head, whatever kind of trip you’re planning.
Kyrkja is a home for one. And their luggage, of course.
More about the Kyrkja one-man tent on page 85.

The TATONKA
TENT ABC
Entrances Frame Guy ropes
Bags Side bags at head height (when lying down) are perfect for storing items such as reading glasses. Almost all our
tents with a vestibule also have a removable vestibule bag plus a roof bag for small items such as a book, insect spray
and so on.
Care Please make sure your tent is absolutely dry when you store it after a trip to prevent damage to the coating. Tents
should only ever be washed by hand; never in the washing machine. Shady pitches and groundsheets will protect the
material on your trips.
Entrances The entrances to TATONKA inner tents are cut wide and easy to use. The basic features include mosquito
windows in the entrances and single-handed operation. When open, the entrance can be packed away in the bag on
the side or secured in the rolled-up position.
Frames The frames must be of the highest possible quality. TATONKA uses YUNAN tent frames because this manufacturer
cares about sustainability as much as quality. YUNAN provides frames in two different aluminium alloys; the choice
is determined by the tent category. Both are unbreakable and hollow on the inside, and they are connected by rubber
bands so they fit together easily.
Groundsheets Ground sheets protect the tent floor against damage from stones, twigs, etc. and provide insulation against
damp and cold. The groundsheet should not be any bigger than the guyed outer tent in order to prevent funnel effects.
Vestibule groundsheets mean that the vestibules can be a clean, dry storage place even in bad weather.
Guy ropes Guy ropes will secure your tent against wind and weather. The advantage with a TATONKA tent: they have a
roll-up device for guy ropes that makes it much easier to set it up and prevents knots. The ropes have reflective sleeves
for greater visibility in the dark.
Tent pegs There are different types of tent peg to suit different ground qualities. Our tents come with standard tent pegs,
which are suitable for at least 90 percent of all uses. If necessary, ask your dealer about special tent pegs, for instance
for sandy, hard, stony or snow-covered ground.
Pockets Vents Tent Pegs
UV rays All tent materials, especially the outer fabric, undergo an ageing process, and their resistance to tearing declines
over the course of time. The main reason for this is UV radiation. Tents with a silicone coating are far more resistant
than those with a PU coating. In order to reduce the risk, tents should be erected in the shade if at all possible.
Vents Vents are covered openings in the outer membrane of the tent that allow the air to circulate. They are guyed
separately, and are made to be waterproof. Thanks to a stiff fabric band, TATONKA vents can still be positioned easily
even after long use. All TATONKA tents have plenty of vents for the optimum air circulation. In fact, the vents on the
Alaska and Highend series tents can even be locked on the inside.
Vestibule A vestibule is a storage area between the inner tent and entrance where you can keep your luggage. It is a clean,
dry place for anything that you don’t want to keep in the inner tent.
ZELTHANDBUCH
Waterproofness No tent is 100 percent waterproof because water can penetrate joints, seams and zips, but it can also be
diverted to outside – essential when it comes to condensation.
Water column The water column indicates how high the water pressure can be before the fabric starts to allow moisture
through. According to the DIN standard, a figure of 1500 mm is considered waterproof. The water column of the outer
tents in our Allround line is much higher at 8000 mm. The outer tents in our Highend series have a water column of
1500 mm, which complies exactly with the DIN standard. They have a special coating that gives them a much higher
beading effect than similar tents, and guarantees a 100% sealed surface. TATONKA groundsheets have a water column
of 10,000 mm (Allround) or 8000 mm (Highend).

The material that outdoor dreams are made of:
TENT-MATERIAL
185T Polyester PU (100% PES)
The outer tent material has four layers of PU coating on the
inside (water column 8 000 mm). It is proven to be UV resistant
and colourfast. Because the fabric does not absorb water, it
will not stretch when damp or wet.
7001/6061 Multipole (100% aluminium)
Aluminium tent frame in 7001/6061 alloy is used in different
thicknesses to provide the optimum tension of the frame arch
in large family tents. For straight vertical use, tubes of 15 mm
diameter provide excellent stability; tubes of 13 mm diameter
are used on bends and corners.
190T Nylon Taffeta JPU (100% PA)
Lightweight tent groundsheet material in 70 Den Nylon with
a very thin, high quality PU coating (water column 8 000 mm)
that is only used with high-end nylon tents.
7001/T6 Aluminium (100% aluminium)
The anodised tent frames in the 7001 aluminium alloy in
hardness T6 combines high breakage resistance (brittleness)
with optimum rigidity (dimensional stability).
190T Ripstop Nylon W/R (100% PA)
The water-repellent (W/R) fabric in 70 Den Nylon is particularly
air-permeable. The stronger threads running horizontally and
vertically (Ripstop) increase the fabric’s tear resistance, which
makes it ideal for inner tents.
Scandium Light (100% aluminium)
Very lightweight, breakproof tent frame for our high-end
tent line. Adding scandium to the aluminium alloy of the
standard frames increases the breakproofness by approx. 20 %,
reduces the weight by approx. 30 % and increases the bending
resistance to the point of permanent deformation by up to
8 %. A hard, smooth surface coating improves durability and
handling.
210T Nylon Taffeta PU (100% PA)
Tight, finely woven, relatively lightweight tent groundsheet material.
Four layers of PU coating, water column up to 10 000 mm.
Nylon 6.6 Ripstop Silicon (100% PA)
A highly tear-proof, lightweight tent fabric from our high-end
series. The material’s excellent properties are due to the very
high quality of the basic material (6.6 RipStop Nylon), which
is reinforced with several layers of a silicone coating (3 on the
outside, 2 on the inside). Which makes it almost impossible
to tear this wafer-thin material with your bare hands! 100 %
water-repellent, as both sides are silicone-coated; 1 500 mm
water column.
30 Den Nylon RS W/R (100% PA)
With a lightweight, air-permeable, water-repellent finish, the
30 Den Nylon Ripstop material is the perfect inner tent material
for the nylon series.
IN FORM AND FUNCTION
Dome and geodesic tents are self-carrying tents whose form is created by arched tent rods that
cross at one or more points. This design has a high degree of built-in stability during storms
or when carrying the weight of snow. Because of the smaller base area in comparison to tunnel
tents, domes are perfect for tours in rocky or mountainous areas as well as for warm areas,
since the inner tent can also be erected on its own.
Tunnel tents are held by at least two parallel erected tent rod arches that are tensioned laterally.
Of all the tent types, the tunnel tents offer the best use of space and at the same time they are
very lightweight. The ability to quickly erect and dismantle the tents makes them the perfect
companion for trips into areas with unstable weather.
UNIVERSAL ALL-ROUND TENTS & SPECIAL Highend MODELS
TATONKA offers the perfect tent for every use. The lightweight and robust all-round tents are
ideally suited for tours under normal weather conditions. The inner tents are made of 190T
Ripstop Nylon W/R and especially breathable. The outer tent is made of polyester material,
has four-layer PU coating on the inside and a water column of 8 000 mm. The material is
non-fading and UV-resistant. The anodised aluminium tent rods are virtually break-proof.
The robust and tear-proof Highend tents are perfect for extended tours and frequent camping
trips – even under extreme weather conditions. The inner tent is made of 30D Nylon Ripstop
W/R, which is waterproof, breathable and especially lightweight. The outer tent is made of
Nylon 6.6 Ripstop Silicone and is also very lightweight and is especially tear-proof. The fivelayer
coating with silicone elastomer makes the material waterproof and ensures that water
easily beads and rolls off. The scandium tent rods are highly stable and lightweight.
Light and uncomplicated tunnel tent in two sizes. Suitable for two or three people sleeping lengthwise. If you
also prefer to have separate living and sleeping areas when you’re in the great outdoors and yet still want to stay compact,
Grönland is the tent for you. The extended front arch makes the porch a practical porch that can easily be used as a
cosy cooking area in bad weather (kitchen not included). The back arch has been shortened – which makes a huge
difference to the weight and packing size.
Features [1] Optimum weight tunnel tent with three rod arches [2] Apse with side entrance [3] Two interior side insert
pockets [4] Entrance into the inner tent with closable mosquito window [5] Air vent in the inner tent [6] Two air vents
Stable and resistant tunnel tent. The Narvik models are suitable for two or three people. The inner tent is already
suspended in the outer tent, but can be quickly detached if required. One feature that you will certainly appreciate in
the rain, as the inner tent stays dry. An another plus point is the smaller rear rod, which makes the tent lighter and
smaller to pack up – without having to accept any losses in sleeping comfort and area usage. Thanks to the many tension
points and robust workmanship, Narvik is a reliable form of accommodation, whatever the weather.
Features [1] Front entrance into the apse [2] Two interior side insert pockets [3] One entrance into the inner tent with
separately closable mosquito window [4] Air vent in the inner tent [5] Two air vents in the outer tent, one can be operated
from the interior [6] Covers, vents, and attachment points made waterproof [7] Practical storage bag for tent guide ropes
Tunnel tent and a reliable shelter from the rain. Tape-sealed seams, waterproof covers, vents and attachment
points – and like all TATONKA tunnel tents the outer tent of the Arctis models can be left out in the rain when dismantling,
while the dry inner tent can be put away. And what you wouldn’t guess from its weight and compactness: the tunnel
construction with its steep outside walls makes Arctis 2 unbelievably spacious compared to dome and geodesic tents
– and that’s not to mention the longer and wider Arctis 3.
Features [1] Tunnel tent with two rod arches in two sizes [2] Four storage bags in the interior [3] Entrance into the inner
tent with closable mosquito window [4] Two entrances into the outer tent [5] Two large closable air vents, which can
Tunnel tent classic in different sizes. The vestibules with side entrance make the popular tunnel tents in the Alaska
series especially spacious. Another advantage is that the occupants sleep lengthways, which makes getting in and out a
whole lot easier. In the XL version with 20 cm longer inner tent, taller people also enjoy more sleeping comfort, while
those who find it impossible to travel lightly will appreciate the extra storage space. The Alaskas also offer further benefits:
a second entrance at the back for ventilation, closable air vents on both entrances, mosquito windows in the inner tent
and excellent workmanship.
Features [1] Tunnel tent with three rod arches and apsis [2] 20 cm longer inner and outer tent (2 XL / 3 XL) [3] Removable
pocket in the apse [4] Four storage bags in the interior [5] Side entrance into the apse with separately closable mosquito net
[6] Two entrances into the inner tent, one with separately closable mosquito nets [7] Two or three entrances into the
outer tent [8] Air vent in the inner tent [9] Two large closable air vents, which can both be operated from the interior
[10] Covers, vents, and attachment points made waterproof [11] Practical storage bag for tent guide ropes [12] Anodised
Spacious tunnel tent with standing-height apsis. You don´t have to stoop
to enter this version of the Alaska 3. The very high vestibule makes entering
awaits inside: plenty of space. So much space, in fact, that you can easily use
the two washing lines inside the inner tent. Windows are integrated into the
side of the large front entrance, which opens out to let in the light when the
sun is shining or prevent cabin fever when it’s not.
Vent Tunnel tent with roll-up sides and optimum ventilation. An airy
variation on our Alaska design, especially for hot climates: the walls on both
sides can be rolled up and attached at two different heights. The mosquito
when the tent is still fully ventilated. The waterproof workmanship of the
air vents, covers and attachment points makes sure that tropical humidity
doesn’t make its way inside.
Especially lightweight and sturdy family tent. The outer tent this light version of the Alaska Family DLX is made
of the high quality base material 6.6 Ripstop nylon, which has a total of five layers of silicone on both sides. This makes
the outer shell very strong and gives it excellent beading behaviour, which produces a high impermeability. Because of
its light weight, the Alaska Family DLX ST is the ideal companion for families that don’t just want to stay and relax in
one location.
Features [1] Tunnel tent with four rod arches, two separate sleeping areas and central, standing height apse [2] More
Protects the base of the tent from damp and stones. Ground sheets
protect the base of the tent from damage caused by stones, branches etc.,
and fend off the rain and cold for longer. When making a purchase, always
remember that the ground sheet should not be larger than the erected outer
tent in order to avoid the “funnel effect”. Ground sheets are available to fit
almost all TATONKA tents.
