The walk of life
Charity
Three hardy taxi drivers braved
freezing temperatures, blisters and
cramps during a gruelling
fundraising walk around the
marathon route.
Sean Blackman, Micky Boyd and
Paul Keogh, came up with the plan
“It was rough but worth it.”
in an effort to raise funds for the
charity Irish Autism Action,
which supports Paul’s son Callum,
who has been diagnosed
Asperger’s Syndrome.
With barely any preparation the
trio, who aim to raise £2,000 for
the charity, set off the day before St
Patrick’s Day and completed the
26 mile course in nine hours.
Sean, 48, of Bexley, said: “It was
rough. It was a very cold and damp
day, the last section where you turn
back in at Billingsgate was very slow,
but it was worth it. We were
knackered afterwards.
“We all have Irish connections
and we had a few beers for St Patrick’s
Day the next day but there was
no dancing.
“We have decided to do something
every year for a different charity but
whatever we do, it won’t be walking.”
Irish Autism Action helps
thousands of people in Ireland but
needs funds to continue providing
its lifeline services.
News in brief
You’ve got to be in it to win it
Lawrence Opher walked away with a cool £5,000 after becoming the
latest LTDA member to scoop our monthly lottery jackpot.
What makes the win even sweeter for Lawrence, of Covent Garden, is
that he has been a long time member of the association but only decided
to join the lottery last year.
“It was nice little touch. I have been a member of the LTDA for about 27
years but I’ve only been doing the lottery for eight or nine months – so it was a
pleasant surprise. It’s much appreciated. ” The lottery costs £5 per month to
enter. To join contact Jenny on 020 7121 0504.
