To further develop NQTs’ classroom management for<br />

improving behaviour for learning. Also, by providing<br />

an early shared <strong>CPD</strong> experience, to promote effective<br />

mentoring and support to sustain improvement<br />

throughout the induction year.<br />

£40 for pair (including at least one <strong>NUT</strong> member).<br />

£100 for pairs <strong>of</strong> non-members. Includes VAT, lunch<br />

and refreshments. Small groups (from same school) <strong>of</strong><br />

one induction tutor with up to three NQTs welcome –<br />

£20 for second or third NQT.<br />

Primary and secondary teachers<br />

Internationalising learning: on the global stage<br />

Thanks to a grant from the Department for International Development<br />

(DFID), the <strong>NUT</strong>’s <strong>CPD</strong> <strong>programme</strong> is providing 15 ‘Internationalising<br />

Learning’ courses throughout England and Wales. Each course is for<br />

pairs <strong>of</strong> teachers (<strong>NUT</strong> members and/or others) and is FREE, including<br />

accommodation, travel and one-day’s supply cover.<br />

Each course will:<br />

• enhance participants’ skills, knowledge and understanding <strong>of</strong><br />

international and global aspects <strong>of</strong> teaching and learning<br />

• enrich learning in classrooms and schools and raise awareness <strong>of</strong><br />

global citizenship and the interdependence <strong>of</strong> international<br />

development, social justice, human rights and community cohesion<br />

Putting the jewel in the crown<br />

How schools can ensure <strong>CPD</strong> is effective and has impact<br />

OD/65: Wednesday 20 October 2010<br />

Speakers: Philippa Cordingley and Vivienne Porritt,<br />

plus choice <strong>of</strong> workshops<br />

teachers, plus all teachers and school leaders wanting<br />

to improve <strong>CPD</strong> (all KSs).<br />

Drawing on the latest evidence from research and<br />

examples <strong>of</strong> good practice, this conference will enable<br />

participants to enhance pr<strong>of</strong>essional learning and<br />

make optimum use <strong>of</strong> expertise within and beyond<br />

their schools.<br />

£125 (£75 for <strong>NUT</strong> members and/or subscribers to<br />

Imaginative Minds publications).<br />

More than a spoonful <strong>of</strong> sugar<br />

Maximising achievement and wellbeing for young people<br />

with medical conditions in mainstream schools<br />

(In partnership with specialists in anaphalaxis, asthma,<br />

diabetes, epilepsy and other conditions prevalent in childhood.)<br />

OD/66: Friday 12 November 2010<br />

School leaders, Sencos, teachers who can lead<br />

change, and other pr<strong>of</strong>essionals working directly with<br />

schools (all KSs).<br />

Participants will increase their knowledge and<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong>:<br />

• good practice in overcoming potential obstacles to<br />

learning and creating a culture inclusive <strong>of</strong> healthrelated<br />

differences (e.g. agreeing care plans)<br />

• medical conditions common in mainstream schools<br />

• sources <strong>of</strong> advice and support<br />

• strategies for preventing stigmatisation and<br />

increasing empathy and awareness among adults<br />

and children.<br />

£30 (£15 second participant from same school).<br />

Conferences held at <strong>NUT</strong> HQ, near Kings Cross, London<br />

• build teaching and leadership capacity in schools to strengthen<br />

international dimensions within and across the curriculum.<br />
