The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is to open<br />
its first Reserve property in the Americas<br />
region with a new 115-guestroom resort at<br />
Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico, in late 2012.<br />
The 50-acre (20-hectare) resort will feature<br />
a spa set in 5-acres (2-hectares) of landscaped<br />
grounds, which will include male and female<br />
‘purification gardens’ with tropical pools,<br />
steamrooms and outdoor Vichy areas.<br />
There will also be 10 glass-walled treatment<br />
pavilions with soaking tubs and massage<br />
tables and two double treehouse treatment<br />
platforms in the forest canopy. Organic spa<br />
products will be made from native plants<br />
grown onsite. A beauty salon, relaxation<br />
rooms and a 8,000sq ft (743sq m) fitness and<br />
wellness centre complete the offer.<br />
Reserve is Ritz-Carlton’s new ultra luxury<br />
brand and its first property opened in<br />
early 2010 in Krabi, Thailand.<br />

Indian spa management<br />
company Orient <strong>Spa</strong> Ltd<br />
has secured an agreement to<br />
offer spa services on two of<br />
the country’s luxury trains –<br />
the Palace on Wheels and the<br />
Royal Rajasthan on Wheels.<br />
Both of the trains have a<br />
dedicated ‘Royal <strong>Spa</strong> carriage’<br />
in which the services will be<br />
provided. Sanjana Gupta, the<br />
business head at Orient <strong>Spa</strong><br />
says: “We have put together a<br />
plethora of Indian and international<br />
therapies that are<br />
compatible with the train<br />
movements, combined with<br />
beauty services. However,<br />
special thrust will be on ayurveda as foreigners<br />
are increasingly turning towards it for health<br />
and healing requirements.”<br />
Orient <strong>Spa</strong> Ltd is the spa and wellness<br />
division of the Neesa Group – a Indian hospitality-focused<br />
company. It operates seven<br />

Meanwhile, Orient <strong>Spa</strong> has also confirmed<br />
its plan to open a fourth spa academy in the<br />
National Capital Region, to add to three existing<br />
schools in Kerala, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.<br />

Hilton Worldwide has unveiled the au$700m<br />
(us$675m, €505m, £434m) Hilton Surfers<br />
Paradise complex on Australia’s Gold Coast.<br />
The global hotel chain said the property<br />
is its first in Australia to offer both guestrooms<br />
(169) and holiday residences (250)<br />
with facilities also including the purposebuilt<br />
eforea: spa at Hilton.<br />
The spa has seven treatment rooms<br />
including one with a Vichy shower for wet<br />
treatments and two to host people spa-ing<br />
in pairs. Products are by Peter Thomas Roth,<br />
Li’tya, VitaMan and Kerstin Florian.<br />
The spa is complemented by a 1,500sq m<br />
(16,146sq ft) deck with four pools, a sauna<br />
and a number of dining concepts.<br />
This is the sixth eforea spa for Hilton, following<br />
the launch of the in-house branded<br />
concept in 2010 (see sb10/3 p28).<br />
New York consumer skincare<br />
group Kiehl’s has revealed its<br />
first-ever spa facility on the<br />
Upper East Side of the US city.<br />
Sited on the second floor of<br />
a new ‘Kiehl’s Since 1851’ retail<br />
store, <strong>Spa</strong> 1851 is to offer skin,<br />
body and hair treatments for<br />
both men and women.<br />
The new spa has a separate<br />
entrance to the retail store<br />
and features a waiting lounge,<br />
three treatment rooms and a<br />
separate grooming station.<br />
In a bid to “provide something<br />
extra”, all scheduled<br />
treatments will be preceded<br />
by the Kiehl’s Signature Greeting – a neck, arm,<br />
hand and foot massage with lavender.<br />
Meanwhile, signature facials will start with<br />
a personalised skin diagnosis to determine the<br />
course of treatment for each guest.<br />

India-based medical spa operator Leonia is<br />
preparing to launch the first of three new<br />
LeoJuventa-branded spas in November.<br />
The new £2m (us$3.1m, €2.3m) standalone<br />
spa in Jaipur will cover up to 10,000sq ft (929sq<br />
m) and incorporate eight therapy rooms.<br />
<strong>Spa</strong> 1851 boasts three treatment rooms and a separate grooming station<br />
Kiehl’s is the latest consumer brand to move<br />
into spa operations, following others such as<br />
Nivea, Molton Brown, Sulwhasoo, Dove (see<br />
sb09/3 p24) and L’Occitane, which announced<br />
its India rollout proposals in July 2010.<br />
Meanwhile, the next LeoJuventa-branded<br />
facility to open will be a similarly-sized spa in<br />
Visakhapatnam in December 2012.<br />
A new 20,000sq ft (1,858sq m) spa with 15<br />
therapy rooms in Mumbai will then follow,<br />
with its launch scheduled for October 2014.<br />
