he State Board of Workforce
Education and Career
Opportunities (SBWECO)
unanimously approved the Arkansas
Department of Workforce Education’s
2009 fi scal year budget
during its semi-monthly meeting at
Camp Couchdale on June 5. The
meeting was held in conjunction
with the state FFA convention.
Charlie Brown, Department of
Workforce Education (DWE) Deputy
Director for Finance, presented
the budget, which included the following
major funding components:
Public School Fund
Agency operations
Federally-funded programs
Cash-supported operations
Trust funds
General improvement accounts
Brown reported that the budget
components funded with state appropriations
were developed in a

manner consistent with
the requirements of the
Arkansas Revenue Stabilization
Act and are based
on offi cial revenue forecasts.
He informed the
board that the budgets
are subject to change because
of changes in actual
revenues, the receipt
of miscellaneous grants
and the authorized reallocation
of funds among
appropriations and line
items.
In other action, the
board unanimously voted
to review and fi le for record
the internal control
and compliance review for
DWE for the 2007 fi scal year which
ended June 30, 2007.
Brown told the board that it
was an honor for the agency to be
chosen for only a review instead
of a complete audit for the fourth
consecutive year. “There were no
reportable conditions,”
he said.

for secondary programs,
adult skills
training classes
and secondary vocational
centers.
