Mdm Ong’s
Patchwork Passion
She’s in her 80s, her right arm severely impaired by a stroke,
and she needs a wheelchair to move about.
Yet Mdm Ong inspires us with her lovely patchwork. Daily, she
would sit at her sewing machine by the window, patiently
piecing together numerous bits of triangular-shaped fabric.
Day after day she continues, until finally, another lovely
patchwork blanket is sewn.
The enormity of her patience, perseverence and effort dawns
on you when you stop to think about it. For example, just a 5x5
feet blanket would need some 1,300 small triangular pieces
to be cut and sewn together.
The painstaking effort begins with choosing different
patterned fabrics, then cutting them into small triangular
shapes, then joining them into squares, then forming
bigger squares, before finally sewing them together into
a lovely patchwork blanket.

of fabrics with
nice patterns are
chosen and cut
into numerous
small triangles.
The triangular
pieces are
slowly sewn
together to
form many
square blocks.
Mdm Ong’s lovely patchwork blankets are part of our
“ELDERLY ENTERPRISE” community project in support of
elderly’s efforts. See next few pages for some samples of
our elderly’s creations. You can order these items to be
made for you.
After days of
patient work,
the blocks are
finally sewn
together to
form another
lovely patchwork
blanket.
