Service to her township (Continued from Page 1) communities. “Today, we take for granted the well maintained grid of roads following the section lines. But that wasn’t always the case,” said Marion. “For many years, the township roads went unplowed during the winter months with the exception of the main road that connected Holt to Middle River and Thief River Falls. People traveled by horse and sleigh across the fields during the winter months. And the roads could be extremely difficult to travel on during spring breakup when mud caused many Model Ts and early cars to get stuck. There were no four-wheel drive pickups to make a quick trip to town.” Marion, like her father, has resided nearly all of her 88 years in Holt Township. Marion married Milton Davidson of nearby Ringbo Township in 1946, and together, they raised their four children on their Centennial Farm – a farm loaded with both family and community history. Milton owned and operated Davidson Well Drilling, which is now owned by their youngest son, Jeff. Milton passed away in 2004.
