America #18. I use mine a<br />
lot and was just looking in it<br />
for a recipe for Easter.<br />
Enjoy today’s recipes. Hope<br />
they make the snow go and<br />
summer come quick.<br />

My grandma used to<br />
make orange bread often<br />
and this one sounds so<br />
easy – perfect to bring<br />
some sunshine into a<br />
snack:<br />
ORANGE NUT BREAD<br />
Marge Zig Carlson<br />
2 tablespoons butter<br />
1 cup honey<br />
1 egg, beaten<br />
1 tablespoon grated orange<br />
rind<br />
2 - 3/4 cups flour<br />
2 - 1/2 teaspoons baking<br />
powder<br />
1/2 teaspoon soda<br />
1/2 teaspoon salt<br />
3/4 cup orange juice<br />
3/4 cup chopped nuts<br />
Blend butter and honey.<br />
Add egg and orange rind.<br />
Mix flour, baking powder,<br />
soda and salt and sift<br />
together. Add alternately<br />
with the orange juice. Add<br />
nuts. Place in greased and<br />
floured loaf pan and bake at<br />
325 degrees for about 1 hour<br />
and 10 minutes, depending<br />
on size of pan. Test to see if<br />
done.<br />

I’m ready for sweets<br />
that aren’t Easter eggs.<br />
This one is so easy and<br />
serves a bunch:<br />
SHEET CAKE<br />

2 cups sugar<br />
2 cups flour<br />
4 tablespoons cocoa<br />
1/2 cup oil<br />
1 cup water<br />
1 stick margarine or butter<br />
2 beaten eggs<br />
1/2 cup buttermilk<br />
1 teaspoon soda<br />
To make cake, sift flour<br />
and sugar together in bowl.<br />
Mix cocoa, oil, water and<br />
butter and bring to boil. Add<br />
sugar/flour mixture. Add<br />
eggs, buttermilk and soda<br />
and beat together.<br />
Grease 9x13 (or larger)<br />
cake pan. Bake at 350<br />
degrees for about 35 minutes.<br />
(If larger pan is used,<br />
bake less – until cake tests<br />
done.) Mix frosting (below)<br />
and frost cake while it is<br />
hot.<br />

add to butter, cocoa and buttermilk<br />
mixture until of<br />
spreading consistency)<br />
1 cup nuts (add last)<br />

cut up<br />
1/2 cup hot water<br />
1 teaspoon soda<br />
2/3 cup butter<br />
1 cup sugar<br />
2 eggs<br />
2 1/4 cups flour<br />
1/4 teaspoon salt<br />
1 teaspoon cloves<br />
1 teaspoon cinnamon<br />
1/2 cup chopped nuts<br />
Mix dates, hot water and<br />
soda and let stand until cool.<br />
Cream butter and sugar<br />
and add eggs. Beat. Sift<br />
spices and flour and mix<br />
alternately with date mixture.<br />
Drop by teaspoonfuls<br />
onto cookie sheet and bake<br />
at 350 degrees for about 12<br />
minutes.<br />

CREAM PUFF BARS<br />

Bottom Crust<br />
1 cup flour<br />
1/2 cup butter<br />
2 tablespoons water<br />
Middle<br />
1 cup water<br />
1/2 cup butter<br />
1 cup flour<br />
3 eggs<br />
1/2 teaspoon almond extract<br />
Frosting<br />
1 cup powdered sugar<br />
1 teaspoon butter<br />
1/2 teaspoon almond extract<br />
Little milk or cream<br />
Mix flour, butter and<br />
water like pie dough and pat<br />
on bottom of jelly roll pan.<br />
To make middle of bars,<br />
heat water and butter to<br />
boiling point. Remove from<br />
heat and add flour, stirring<br />
until smooth. Add eggs, one<br />
at a time, beating well after<br />
each. Add almond extract<br />
and spread on first mixture.<br />
Frost with mixture of<br />
powdered sugar, butter,<br />
almond extract and cream<br />
or milk. Bake at 350 degrees<br />
for 55 minutes.<br />
