.) An <strong>ITU</strong> paratriathlon classifier must be trained <strong>and</strong> certified by <strong>ITU</strong> <strong>and</strong> it can be:<br />

(i) medical <strong>and</strong>/or health professionals. For example: licensed medical doctors,<br />

physiotherapists, occupational therapists;<br />

(ii) sports specific <strong>and</strong>/or technical experts for example sport scientists, coaches,<br />

former paratriathletes, physical educators.<br />

2.2. <strong>ITU</strong> Head of <strong>Classification</strong>:<br />

a.) The <strong>ITU</strong> Head of <strong>Classification</strong> is a classifier responsible for the direction,<br />

administration, co-ordination <strong>and</strong> implementation of classification matters for <strong>ITU</strong>.<br />

b.) The <strong>ITU</strong> Head of <strong>Classification</strong> is nominated to the <strong>ITU</strong> Executive Board by the <strong>ITU</strong><br />

<strong>Paratriathlon</strong> Committee following the quadrennial elections. The <strong>ITU</strong> Executive<br />

Board is responsible for approving each nominee.<br />

2.3. Chief Classifier:<br />

a.) The Chief Classifier is a classifier responsible for the direction, administration, coordination<br />

<strong>and</strong> implementation of classification matters for a specific competition.<br />

b.) The <strong>ITU</strong> Head of <strong>Classification</strong> is responsible for assigning Chief Classifiers to each<br />

<strong>ITU</strong> Event. The <strong>ITU</strong> <strong>Paratriathlon</strong> Committee is responsible for approving these<br />

assignments without unreasonable delay.<br />

2.4. <strong>Classification</strong> Panel:<br />

a.) A <strong>Classification</strong> Panel is appointed for a particular competition to determine the<br />

Sport Class <strong>and</strong> Sport Class Status of the paratriathletes competing in that event<br />

under <strong>ITU</strong> <strong>Classification</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Regulations</strong>.<br />

b.) In accordance with the IPC <strong>Classification</strong> Code, <strong>Classification</strong> Panels should include<br />

a minimum of two classifiers in which at least one medical member should be<br />

present.<br />

c.) In exceptional circumstances, a panel with only one (1) medical classifier may be<br />

appointed with specific provisions outlined under 5.4 c) iii).<br />

d.) Host NFs may provide up to two (2) trainee classifiers per event.<br />

e.) Two (2) <strong>Classification</strong> Panels are required at <strong>ITU</strong> events where protests can be<br />

managed. It is possible for the Chief Classifier to be a member of one of the panels.<br />

f.) Members shall not have any other official responsibilities during a competition that<br />

are not in connection with classification.<br />

g.) <strong>Classification</strong> Panels are appointed by the <strong>ITU</strong> Head of <strong>Classification</strong> in advance of<br />

the competition. Communication of all relevant details about the event will be<br />

included in the notification of appointment, indicating all the important contacts<br />

<strong>and</strong> the conditions.<br />

h.) The invitation shall state the venue, dates <strong>and</strong> times of the <strong>Classification</strong> Process, as<br />

well as arrival <strong>and</strong> departure times. All classifiers shall stay to observe the<br />

competition.<br />

i.) Classifiers appointed will respond with their availability to attend the event within<br />

fourteen (14) days of being notified.<br />

j.) It is recommended that classifiers in the same classification panel should be from<br />

different nationalities.<br />
