NEXT ONE UP OPENS THE !
OLUV C. JOYNER CLASSROOM
Thanks to the generous support of the Oluv C. Joynor Foundation, Next One Up and its student-athletes
finally have a permanent home for academic enrichment. With the support of Oluv C. Joynor, Next One Up
was able to further its mission: Transforming the lives of young men in Baltimore City by supporting
and advancing their academic, athletic and social development. !

For years, Next One Up student-athletes met tutors at libraries, coffee shops and cafeterias. Tutors were
hard to find and it was a challenge to find consistent coaching for SAT prep. With this gift, Next One Up not
only built this wonderful learning space, but also purchased new laptops and secured one of the best testprep
coaches in Baltimore. Ms. Elena Walsh, a Johns Hopkins graduate and current college counselor in
Baltimore City, is Kaplan Certified and will commit more than 40 hours of SAT prep for our 10 juniors and
seniors this fall. !
!
Aside from SAT prep classes on Sunday, students will also use this space to meet tutors, fill out college
applications, complete homework and meet with college admissions officers.!
!
Next One Up has a full schedule of college admissions visits this fall, including representatives from Johns
Hopkins University, Goucher College, Oberlin College and The University of Rochester. !
