Grundfos at a glance
With an annual production of more than 11 million pumps, Grundfos
is one of the world’s largest pump manufacturers with manufacturing
around the globe.
In addition to pumps and pump systems, Grundfos develops, produces
and sells electric motors and high-tech electronic equipment to add
‘intelligence’ and minimise product’s power consumption.
GRUNDFOS DIRECT SENSORS
Sensor solutions for harsh environments
Breakthrough in applied physics
Mems Technology :
The Mems Technology (Micro – Electro – Mechanic – System) is
one of the century’s major developments and is now widely used
in High Tec applications.
AGGRESSIVE MEDIA PROTECTION
As a breakthrough in Sensor Technology Grundfos have succeded to
develop and produce a new Sensor based on Silicone Chip for use in
Flow – Pressure and Differential Measurement
The Sensor are delivered with integrated Temperature Sensor and
Based on the patented coating on the Silicone Chip (Silicoat ) the
Sensor Solutions are available for all Harsh Environment.
Based on the construction Grundfos have succed in cost reduction
compared to conventional transmitter and there fore the Sensors are
now widely used in various OEM and Industrial Application.
The most important resource in the Grundfos Group is its employees,
their knowledge and commitment. Therefore the Group aims at
continuous development of its employees through creation of an
inspiring work environment, where we promote the development
and production of innovative new products.
The Grundfos Group is a privately held company owned by the Poul
Due Jensen Foundation. The foundation’s main objective is to remain
an independent and growing company by reinvesting all funds back
into the company.
INNOVATION
Based on long term Research and Development have Grundfos
achieved a break through in applying this technology to Sensor Production
Grundfos deliver intelligent and robust Sensor based on MEMS basis
within Flow – Pressure and Differential Measurement
Cost Effective Solution:
The Milestone in this innovation is the direct measurement (wet and
wet –wet) on a Silicone Chip. Compared to traditional Sensor Technology
with either capsule or unprotected measuring cell against
the Media the metal glass alloy coating Silicoat ensures a continuous
protection for the Sensor Chip at aggressive media (ph 2 – ph 11)
at even at temperature 100 ° C
Vortex Flow Sensor
The Nano Coating Technology offers a direct Contact with the Media.
The System advantage as quick response time, accurate Measurement,
with a wide programme including improved repeatability
now opens for further usage of Sensors in various application and
new system concepts.
Due to the modular concept Grundfos Direct Sensors the programme
now offers cost effective products even in high volume
business.
The complete programme is under the Grundfos tight quality control
programme being deployed according to Six Sigma.
Sensor principle
By combining the established vortex principle (von Karman, 1912)
with an unique metal-glass coating from Grundfos an affordable,
accurate and direct flow sensor for aggressive media is now
available. The flow sensor is without moving parts, which can
deteriorate or commence clogging.
The Vortex Street generate two series of turbulence (vortices)
shedding behind a bluff body
At increasing flow the frequency of the Vortices will increase and
the frequency increase indicate the increase flow situation.
The Grundfos Vortex Sensor consist of Flow Pipe – Sensor – and
Vortex Element were the vortices are generated.
Grundfos Semiconductor
The Sensor detect the Pressure Pulsation generated by the vortices
and convert the pulsation to an electrical output signal
Red: Flow response (pin2)
Yellow: Temperature response (pin1)
The Frequency of the Pressure Pulsation is a measurement for the
Velocity and in the defined flow pipe the actual flow is measured.
