SSI to Profibus IF55 gateway
Connect your Lika SSI encoder to Profibus with the new IF55 gateway. IF55 gateway allows
complete integration and full compliance with the Profibus-DP protocol.
What is IF55?
IF55 is the new gateway from Lika Electronic designed
to convert any Lika SSI serial encoder into a Profibus-DP
slave. The slave encoder can be configured as
a Class 1, Class 2 or Class 2(+VEL) device, thus gaining
enhanced functions such as scaling, extended diagnostics,
velocity information. Whether your SSI device
is a singleturn or multiturn rotary encoder or a linear
sensor, then you can easily and reliably connect it to
the fieldbus network. IF55 gateway fully complies with
the Profibus-DP protocol.
A complete range
IF55 gateway is also available with EtherCAT interface
complying with ETG.1000 specifications and
supporting CoE (CANopen over EtherCAT) and FoE (for
firmware upgrade) protocols and the EtherCAT State
Machine; and with CANopen interface complying
with the “Device Profile for encoders” Class 2. IF55
converters use connectors and cables that meet the
protocol specifications.
Why to use IF55?
There are many good reasons why IF55 gateway is of a
great benefit. First, in the case of a plant retrofit project,
instead of being discarded an existing SSI serial interface
encoder can be converted and reused in a more
modern and integrated communication system.
Furthermore, because of its electronics, a bus encoder
has larger dimensions than a SSI model and comes
from 58 mm flange design up. Today it is finally
possible to install even a small encoder (Ø 36 mm!) or
a minimum footprint head sensor in tight spaces not
giving up the Profibus technology. In addition there is
no need to make any change either in the hardware or
in the software of the SSI encoder, only the converter
needs few simple parameters to be programmed.
Perfect for:
• singleturn and multiturn rotary encoders
(for example MS36, MM36, AM36, AM58)
• linear encoders (for example SMA5, SMA2)
• bearingless encoders (for example SMRA)
• Fully complying with Profibus-DP
• device configurable as a Class 1, Class 2 or Class
2(+VEL) slave
• connectors and cables according to Profibus specifications

SFP draw-wire encoders gain analogue outputs
Lika Electronic is releasing new SFP series cable-pulling encoders that provide linear position
feedback over distances from 300 mm / 11.8” to 2000 mm / 78.7” and analogue outputs now.
Customers can now benefit through more choice in
the range of cable pulling measuring solutions to select
from. Lika Electronic is introducing two further
output signal options in the SFP draw wire units series:
4-20mA current output and 0-10V voltage
output. Analogue models come to complement the 1
to 20 kΩ potentiometer selection.
Compact and robust, SFP stringpots have a rugged aluminium
housing and use a reliable stainless steel draw
wire mechanism. They are protected to IP64 and can
operate in ambient temperatures from -25°C to +85°C
(-13°F +185°F). They are available in five measuring
ranges: 300 mm / 11.8”, 500 mm / 19.7”, 1000
mm / 39.4”, 1500 mm / 59” and 2000 mm / 78.7”
and allow for wide cable misalignments. Aimed at linear
measurement applications across all industries with
medium-short displacements and limited space, they
are well matched to telescopic systems and hydraulic
pistons (for instance in mobile equipment such as outriggers,
stabilizing slides, telescopic cranes, booms ...),
forklifts, printing machines, medical technology applications
such as in examination tables, dentist’s chairs
and laboratory testing devices, among others. Furthermore
they are a cost-effective alternative to the linear
potentiometers in applications where reliable and lowcost
position verification is required.
Lika Electronic offers a full line of “cable pulling” measuring
solutions including stringpots (potentiometers)
as well as incremental, absolute, fieldbus, Ethernet and
ATEX draw-wire encoders.
