Tourists who are keen on witnessing
the efforts being made in conservation
involving wildlife should make a point of
visiting Monkeyland. It is the world’s first
multi-species and free-roaming primate
sanctuary, acclaimed worldwide for its
extensive ongoing rehabilitation work.
It is dedicated to releasing previously
caged primates into a free-roaming
environment under the auspices of Touch
a Monkey’s Heart Foundation.
The sanctuary is situated in the
Tsitsikamma area and visitors are
taken on a one-hour safari to view
many species living in a lush, forested
environment. The sanctuary boasts the
only free-roaming gibbon apes in
South Africa.

HISTORIC KING WILLIAMS TOWN
King Williams Town was founded in 1835
and is situated on the upper reaches of
the Buffalo River. It is dubbed as a town
with a fascinating mixture of history,
culture and landscape.
The town has museums, monuments
and many sandstone buildings, including
some of the finest old stone churches
in the region. It is home to apartheid
struggle hero Steve Biko’s Garden of
Remembrance, his home, the Bisho
Massacre Monument, the Missionary
Museum and the engrossingly interesting
Amathole Museum, which houses
important displays commemorating the
Xhosa people, German settlers, military
history and mammal exhibits.
The town also boasts the oldest post
office in the country, built by
the missionaries.

CONCERTS IN VICTORIA PARK
The Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra presents their annual Concerts in
Victoria Park on 16 and 17 February in Victoria Park, Port Elizabeth.
The concerts will be under the widely experienced and award-winning baton of
conductor Richard Cock, who is much in demand throughout the country for the
popular Last Night of the Proms concerts and Songs of Praise.
The setting is one of the loveliest parks in the city and offers beautiful landscaped
gardens, attractive water-lily ponds with quaint stone bridges and a large, pleasant
lawn area under shade trees. The audience is encouraged to bring a picnic basket,
blanket and folding chairs and relax to the music of the ECPO and soloists.
