WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY: Please read and sign
In consideration of the acceptance of my application for entry in the 40th Manasquan River Canoe & Kayak Race, I certify that:
I understand that canoeing and/or kayaking involves certain inherent dangers and risks which I am prepared to assume for all listed minors and myself.
These risks can cause loss or damage to equipment, accidental injury, illness, or in extreme cases, permanent trauma, disability or death.
I am in good health and have sufficient training and experience to participate in this event.
I have read, fully understood, and agree to abide by the rules of this event.
I give permission for the use, without fee, of my name and picture in any broadcast, telecast, Internet-based, or print media account of this event for promotional
and publicity purposes.
I hereby authorize any medical treatment deemed necessary in the event of any injury or illness while participating in this event. I further state that I either
have appropriate medical insurance or, in its absence, agree to pay all costs of rescue and/or medical services incurred on my behalf.
I intend to legally bind myself, my heirs and executors, and hereby release, waive, and hold harmless the Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners;
the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Monmouth County Park System; County of Monmouth; New Jersey Water Supply Authority; New
Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry; and any person or entity associated with this event from any and all claims and demands which may result from loss,
damage, or injury to person, persons, or property as the result of my participation in this event.

Canoe & Kayak Race
Date: Saturday, May 8, 2010
Time: Check-in begins at 8:00 am
Place: Howell Park Golf Course, Howell, NJ
Goal
The Manasquan River Canoe & Kayak Race is held
annually to encourage participation in paddlesports,
promote water safety, and provide an enjoyable
experience that draws attention to the Manasquan
River as a viable recreational resource.
The Course
The course is a 5.87-mile Class I section of
the Manasquan River, beginning at Howell Park
Golf Course and concluding at the Hospital
Road Canoe Landing Area. Varied widths, depths,
twists, turns, obstacles, strainers, and portages
make this a challenging route.This race is for
experienced paddlers.
Registration
$24 per solo canoe/kayak
$34 per tandem canoe/kayak
l Entries must be received by
Friday, April 23, 2010.
l Entry fee includes commemorative T-shirt and
post-race refreshments.
l When registering with partner not in the same
age group, always register in younger age group.
l No race day entries or category changes.
l A limited number of tandem canoe rentals
and sit-on-top kayaks are available at $15 per
boat. Rental includes a personal flotation device
and paddle. Kayak models: Solo-Islander
l Additional race information will be mailed to
participants after April 23, 2010.
l A limited shuttle service is available for
participants only.
Divisions
To address registration trends and participants’
preferences, we offer the following divisions and
category choices:
Competitive – Timed event for experienced
competitive paddlers only.
Awards will be presented to the top three
finishers in each category.
A. Men’s Solo Kayak – ages 18-44
B. Women’s Solo Kayak – ages 18-44
C. Mixed Masters & Senior Solo Kayak – ages 45+
D. Solo Sit-On-Top Kayak
E. Tandem Sit-On-Top Kayak
F. Mixed Solo Canoe – ages 18+
G. Men’s Tandem Canoe – ages 18-44
H. Women’s Tandem Canoe – ages 18+
I. Mixed Tandem Canoe – ages 18-44
J. Mixed Master Tandem Canoe – ages 45-59
K. Mixed Senior Tandem Canoe – ages 60+
L. Family Tandem Canoe – ages 10-17,
one participant 18+
Recreational Division – NON-TIMED event for
experienced noncompetitive paddlers only.
M. Solo Kayak – ages 15+
N. Canoe – ages 15+
Note: When specified, “mixed” means male
and female paddlers may enter the category in
any combination.
RULES
l Applications must be recieved by
Friday, April 23, 2010.
l Participants must complete the attached Waiver
and Release of Liability.
l A US Coast Guard-approved Type III inherently
buoyant personal flotation device must be
WORN and SECURED at all times, no CO2
vests or belts.
l Participants must follow the principles of good
sportsmanship at all times, including rendering
aid to boaters in trouble and giving way
within reason.
l All personal paddling gear is subject to a visual
safety inspection during check-in and the
Park System reserves the right to disqualify
any faulty craft.
l Participants are recommended to wear water
shoes or sneakers at all times. No Flip Flops.
l The Monmouth County Park System reserves
the right to make changes or remove any
participant in the interest of safety.
l Failure to comply with the race rules will result
in immediate disqualification.
