UVAS, University of<br />

Northampton Sign MoU<br />

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between<br />

the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore<br />

and University of Northampton, United Kingdom to pursue a<br />

programme of scientific and technical collaboration in technology up<br />

gradation especially in the leather sector. The MoU was signed by Dr.<br />

Muhammad Nawaz, UVAS Vice Chancellor, UVAS and Prof. Dr. Ann<br />

Tate, Vice Chancellor, University of Northampton during a recent<br />

visit of Dr. Nawaz to the UK. Earlier, a delegation of the University of<br />

Northampton had visited UVAS for a consultative meeting with the<br />

Vice Chancellor and Deans of all the faculties.<br />

The agreement aims to engage both universities in collaborative<br />

efforts in research and technology transfer and skill development to<br />

help students, faculty and industry for synergy and socio-economic<br />

growth. It will facilitate joint academic and research studies to<br />

strengthen the industrial sector, especially leather processing,<br />

testing, quality control and finishing.<br />

46 Seats for Afghan Students at UVAS<br />

The Academic Council of the<br />

University of Veterinary and Animal<br />

Sciences (UVAS), Lahore recently<br />

approved creation of 46 seats for<br />

undergraduate and postgraduate<br />

students under category of “Afghan<br />

Students” for the academic session<br />

<strong>2010</strong>-11.<br />

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nawaz, Vice<br />

Chancellor, UVAS chaired the<br />

Council meeting, which was<br />

attended by Dr. Muhammad Ayub,<br />

Director General (Fisheries), Dr.<br />

Kamran Ashraf, Registrar as well as<br />

Deans, Directors, Chairmen and<br />

Principal, Veterinary College Jhang.<br />

As many as 23 seats have been<br />

created for undergraduate<br />

students. Five seats have been<br />

allocated for BS (Honours) Dairy<br />

Technology; four each for BS<br />

(Honours) Bio-technology and<br />

Informatics, and BS (Honours)<br />

Fisheries and Aquaculture; three<br />

each for Doctor of Veterinary<br />

Medicine and BS (Honours) Poultry<br />

Sciences; and two seats for<br />

Pharm–D discipline.<br />

The Council created 17 seats for<br />

MPhil students, Poultry Production<br />

(four seats), Molecular Biology and<br />

Technology (three), Animal<br />

Nutrition, Food Nutrition, Dairy<br />

Technology, Wildlife and Ecology,<br />

and Fisheries and Aquaculture (two<br />

seats each).<br />

The Council also reserved six seats<br />

for PhD scholars in various<br />

departments including Animal<br />

Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dairy<br />

Technology, Fisheries and<br />

Aquaculture, Wildlife and Ecology,<br />

Molecular Biology and Technology.<br />

NIP Symposium on Drug Use/<br />

Abuse and Prevention<br />

A symposium on Drug Use/ Abuse<br />

and Prevention was organized at<br />

the National Institute of Psychology<br />

(NIP), Quaid-i-Azam University,<br />

Islamabad, on the occasion of<br />

International Day against Drug<br />

Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.<br />

This was a collaborative effort of<br />

NIP and HOSLA Addiction<br />

Treatment and Rehabilitation<br />

Centre.<br />

In this symposium, empirical<br />

papers were presented by students<br />

of NIP, on different themes Dr. Anila<br />

Kamal, Director, NIP appreciated<br />

the collaboration of HOSLA<br />

A d d i c t i o n Tr e a t m e n t a n d<br />

Rehabilitation Centre for organizing<br />

this symposium. Dr. Iftikhar<br />

Ahmad, Director, HOSLA shared a<br />

data report of patients of drug<br />

abuse who received treatment<br />

from the Centre.<br />

Symptomatology”.<br />
