UVAS, University of
Northampton Sign MoU
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between
the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore
and University of Northampton, United Kingdom to pursue a
programme of scientific and technical collaboration in technology up
gradation especially in the leather sector. The MoU was signed by Dr.
Muhammad Nawaz, UVAS Vice Chancellor, UVAS and Prof. Dr. Ann
Tate, Vice Chancellor, University of Northampton during a recent
visit of Dr. Nawaz to the UK. Earlier, a delegation of the University of
Northampton had visited UVAS for a consultative meeting with the
Vice Chancellor and Deans of all the faculties.
The agreement aims to engage both universities in collaborative
efforts in research and technology transfer and skill development to
help students, faculty and industry for synergy and socio-economic
growth. It will facilitate joint academic and research studies to
strengthen the industrial sector, especially leather processing,
testing, quality control and finishing.
46 Seats for Afghan Students at UVAS
The Academic Council of the
University of Veterinary and Animal
Sciences (UVAS), Lahore recently
approved creation of 46 seats for
undergraduate and postgraduate
students under category of “Afghan
Students” for the academic session
2010-11.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nawaz, Vice
Chancellor, UVAS chaired the
Council meeting, which was
attended by Dr. Muhammad Ayub,
Director General (Fisheries), Dr.
Kamran Ashraf, Registrar as well as
Deans, Directors, Chairmen and
Principal, Veterinary College Jhang.
As many as 23 seats have been
created for undergraduate
students. Five seats have been
allocated for BS (Honours) Dairy
Technology; four each for BS
(Honours) Bio-technology and
Informatics, and BS (Honours)
Fisheries and Aquaculture; three
each for Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine and BS (Honours) Poultry
Sciences; and two seats for
Pharm–D discipline.
The Council created 17 seats for
MPhil students, Poultry Production
(four seats), Molecular Biology and
Technology (three), Animal
Nutrition, Food Nutrition, Dairy
Technology, Wildlife and Ecology,
and Fisheries and Aquaculture (two
seats each).
The Council also reserved six seats
for PhD scholars in various
departments including Animal
Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dairy
Technology, Fisheries and
Aquaculture, Wildlife and Ecology,
Molecular Biology and Technology.
NIP Symposium on Drug Use/
Abuse and Prevention
A symposium on Drug Use/ Abuse
and Prevention was organized at
the National Institute of Psychology
(NIP), Quaid-i-Azam University,
Islamabad, on the occasion of
International Day against Drug
Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
This was a collaborative effort of
NIP and HOSLA Addiction
Treatment and Rehabilitation
Centre.
In this symposium, empirical
papers were presented by students
of NIP, on different themes Dr. Anila
Kamal, Director, NIP appreciated
the collaboration of HOSLA
A d d i c t i o n Tr e a t m e n t a n d
Rehabilitation Centre for organizing
this symposium. Dr. Iftikhar
Ahmad, Director, HOSLA shared a
data report of patients of drug
abuse who received treatment
from the Centre.
