What the bag marks tell you:<br />

RoadCem and Buildcrete - <strong>Lafarge</strong> brands<br />

of roadb<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g cements, with a low carbon<br />

footpr<strong>in</strong>ts:<br />

• 32,5N<br />

achieves a strength of at least 32,5MPa<br />

at 28 days under standard test<br />

conditions<br />

• LOA number<br />

<strong>Lafarge</strong> is authorised to sell RoadCem<br />

and Buildcrete <strong>in</strong> the <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n<br />

market as it more than meet the<br />

necessary regulatory requirements.<br />

It is mandatory to display a Letter of<br />

Authority (LOA) number on a bag of<br />

cement and on the sale transaction<br />

documentation<br />

• SABS mark<br />

Indicates that RoadCem and Buildcrete<br />

comply with the compulsory standard<br />

<strong>in</strong> the SANS 50197 (EN 197)<br />

specifications. Although display<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

SABS mark is no longer mandatory,<br />

<strong>Lafarge</strong> Cement voluntarily displays it<br />

• e-mark<br />

Indicates that the packag<strong>in</strong>g equipment<br />

and systems at our Lichtenburg Cement<br />

Works have been audited and approved<br />

by the NRCS and comply with the<br />

SANS 1841 standard. Our customers<br />

are assured of receiv<strong>in</strong>g the quantity for<br />

which they have paid<br />

Car<strong>in</strong>g for the<br />

environment<br />

<strong>Lafarge</strong> Cement believes that it has a responsibility<br />

to use raw material resources wisely and <strong>in</strong> the<br />

most environmentally-friendly way possible.<br />

Every ton of cement replaced by cementitious<br />

extenders such as fly ash and slag reduces energy<br />

consumption <strong>in</strong> cement manufacture and preserves<br />

non-renewable m<strong>in</strong>eral resources.<br />

<strong>Lafarge</strong> Cement was the first company <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> to offer customers a full range of<br />

extended environmentally-friendly cements, with<br />

lower carbon footpr<strong>in</strong>ts.<br />

Cementitious extenders<br />

and the environment:<br />

Fly ash and slag are environmentally-friendly<br />

products. <strong>Lafarge</strong> Cement’s <strong>in</strong>novative use of<br />

cementitious extenders as a component of build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

materials is mak<strong>in</strong>g a significant contribution to<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>able development by:<br />

• Reduc<strong>in</strong>g the use of non-renewable<br />

resources<br />

• Reduc<strong>in</strong>g carbon dioxide emissions from<br />

cement plants<br />

• Recycl<strong>in</strong>g by-products of coal burn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

power stations and blast furnaces, which<br />

cuts back on the landfill sites<br />

Green Build<strong>in</strong>g Council<br />

<strong>Lafarge</strong> Cement was the first member of the build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

materials <strong>in</strong>dustry to jo<strong>in</strong> the Green Build<strong>in</strong>g Council<br />

of <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> (GBCSA). It is a commitment to<br />

assist the Council <strong>in</strong> lead<strong>in</strong>g the transformation of<br />

the <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n property <strong>in</strong>dustry to ensure that<br />

all build<strong>in</strong>gs are designed, built and operated <strong>in</strong><br />

an environmentally susta<strong>in</strong>able way. The aim is to<br />

allow all people <strong>in</strong> our country to work and live <strong>in</strong><br />

healthy, efficient and productive environments.<br />
