What the bag marks tell you:
RoadCem and Buildcrete - Lafarge brands
of roadbinding cements, with a low carbon
footprints:
• 32,5N
achieves a strength of at least 32,5MPa
at 28 days under standard test
conditions
• LOA number
Lafarge is authorised to sell RoadCem
and Buildcrete in the South African
market as it more than meet the
necessary regulatory requirements.
It is mandatory to display a Letter of
Authority (LOA) number on a bag of
cement and on the sale transaction
documentation
• SABS mark
Indicates that RoadCem and Buildcrete
comply with the compulsory standard
in the SANS 50197 (EN 197)
specifications. Although displaying the
SABS mark is no longer mandatory,
Lafarge Cement voluntarily displays it
• e-mark
Indicates that the packaging equipment
and systems at our Lichtenburg Cement
Works have been audited and approved
by the NRCS and comply with the
SANS 1841 standard. Our customers
are assured of receiving the quantity for
which they have paid
Caring for the
environment
Lafarge Cement believes that it has a responsibility
to use raw material resources wisely and in the
most environmentally-friendly way possible.
Every ton of cement replaced by cementitious
extenders such as fly ash and slag reduces energy
consumption in cement manufacture and preserves
non-renewable mineral resources.
Lafarge Cement was the first company in
South Africa to offer customers a full range of
extended environmentally-friendly cements, with
lower carbon footprints.
Cementitious extenders
and the environment:
Fly ash and slag are environmentally-friendly
products. Lafarge Cement’s innovative use of
cementitious extenders as a component of building
materials is making a significant contribution to
sustainable development by:
• Reducing the use of non-renewable
resources
• Reducing carbon dioxide emissions from
cement plants
• Recycling by-products of coal burning
power stations and blast furnaces, which
cuts back on the landfill sites
Green Building Council
Lafarge Cement was the first member of the building
materials industry to join the Green Building Council
of South Africa (GBCSA). It is a commitment to
assist the Council in leading the transformation of
the South African property industry to ensure that
all buildings are designed, built and operated in
an environmentally sustainable way. The aim is to
allow all people in our country to work and live in
healthy, efficient and productive environments.
