THE PROGRAM<br />
BS MATHEMATICS<br />
The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in <strong>Mathematics</strong> program aims to prepare the student to take<br />
graduate studies either in Pure or Applied <strong>Mathematics</strong>, to teach <strong>Mathematics</strong> courses up to the<br />
junior undergraduate level and to take immediately a <strong>Mathematics</strong>-oriented job in business, in<br />
industry, or in the government sector.<br />
The curriculum has been designed to allow substantial flexibility. Besides the required major<br />
courses a choice in a major option in a series <strong>of</strong> 4 subjects or an equivalent <strong>of</strong> 12 units in the<br />
same field in one particular discipline such as Computer Science, Applied <strong>Mathematics</strong>,<br />
Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Engineering, Education, etc., which determines the<br />
direction a student wishes to pursue aligned to one <strong>of</strong> the three alternatives. The curriculum gives<br />
the student a choice <strong>of</strong> at least five (5 ) <strong>Mathematics</strong> electives (equivalent to 15 units) from a<br />
number <strong>of</strong> varied mathematics courses.<br />
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES<br />
Career prospect for BS <strong>Mathematics</strong> graduates range from teaching and a <strong>Mathematics</strong>oriented<br />
job in business, in industry, or in the government.<br />
