University <strong>of</strong> North Bengal, through its specialized<br />
<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tea</strong> Science has agreed to Associate with<br />
eFresh Portal as “Knowledge Sharing Partner ” ,<br />
particularly with reference to helping the Small and<br />
Marginal <strong>Tea</strong> Growers in North Bengal.<br />
The eFresh Portal can also publish the information<br />
related to the university in the portal from time to time for<br />
the benefit <strong>of</strong> the farmers.<br />

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT DEPARTMENT <strong>OF</strong><br />
TEA SCIENCES:<br />
North Bengal University is situated in the heart <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tea</strong><br />
belt <strong>of</strong> Northern <strong>India</strong>. The nearest <strong>Tea</strong> regions are<br />
Darjeeling, Terai and Dooars.<br />
There are about 350 big <strong>Tea</strong> gardens and thousands <strong>of</strong> Small<br />
<strong>Tea</strong> gardens surrounding this University.<br />
Postgraduate Diploma Course in <strong>Tea</strong> Management was<br />
established in the year 1995 as per the advice <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>. Nurul<br />
Hassan, the Governor <strong>of</strong> West Bengal and Chancellor <strong>of</strong> this<br />
University.<br />
This PGDTM course caters to the need <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Tea</strong> industry by<br />
supplying trained manpower to the industry and by providing<br />
technical support in the field <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tea</strong> science.<br />
A soil testing laboratory helps the industry by analysis the<br />
soil <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Tea</strong> gardens <strong>of</strong> Dooars, Terai, Darjeeling, Assam,<br />
Uttar Dinajpur and Kishanganj district <strong>of</strong> Bihar.<br />
Many eminent persons <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Tea</strong> industry like Mr. A.N.<br />

plays a great role in arrange one-month Practical <strong>Tea</strong> Garden<br />
Training for the Students in various gardens <strong>of</strong> Darjeeling,<br />
Dooars and Terai<br />
Soil Testing Laboratory is registered under <strong>Tea</strong> Board for<br />
testing <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tea</strong> garden soil. <strong>Tea</strong> Board also provides financial<br />
grant for conducting Small <strong>Tea</strong> Growers Training<br />
Programme, which was found to be very helpful for the<br />
planters.<br />
