C-130 makes first landing at Bulolo Airport
On the morning of April
8, 2012 a huge plane
carrying fuel for the Hidden
Valley mine landed at
the Bulolo Airport to the
amazement of the local
residents.
The C-130 Hercules arrival
was a pleasant Easter surprise
for the people, who have
never seen a plane like this in
their lifetime.
The maiden trip by the
C-130 Hercules operated by
Lynden Air Cargo (LAC) was
freighting 22,000 litres of fuel
for the Hidden Valley mine
for the first time. This plane
can carry anything from
artefacts to zebras.
The plane with its
crew of captain, first
officer, flight engineer and
loadmaster were met by
senior employees from
Hidden Valley and Wafi-
Golpu Logistics and Supply
department upon landing at
10:45 am.
When the plane was
secured on the ground,
Hidden Valley and Wafi-
Golpu and Lyden staff
worked together to transfer
fuel from the plane’s fuel
chamber to the Hidden Valley
Transport’s fuel tanker to be
delivered to the mine site.
This lasted for forty minutes
before the C-130 Hercules
departed Bulolo Airport
at about 12.32 pm for Lae,
Nadzab Airport.
LAC has been operating
on an ad-hoc basis in Papua
New Guinea for over a
decade and holds a PNG
Air Operators Certificate
and Air Service Licence.
It is based at the Nadzab
Airport and employees 28
people including pilots and
