Triathlon Scholarships<br />
The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stirling</strong> has been identified as a centre <strong>of</strong><br />
excellence for triathlon supporting international and developing<br />
triathletes through the International Sports Scholarship Programme.<br />
They are further supported by triathlonscotland, the national<br />
governing body, whose high performance training centre is<br />
located on our campus. <strong>Stirling</strong> is home to one <strong>of</strong> the largest<br />
high performance sports programmes in the UK, whose alumni<br />
include Olympians, World and Commonwealth Games athletes.<br />
Training and Competition<br />
Our individually tailored triathlon programme, for men and<br />
women, enables scholars to combine their high performance<br />
training with study for an academic degree.<br />
The weekly programme comprises up to 12 hours dedicated<br />
coaching time and a further three hours fitness training with<br />
specialist strength and conditioning staff. There is access to<br />
sports science support, including diet and nutrition, psychology,<br />
physiotherapy, lifestyle management and medical expertise.<br />
Squad members compete worldwide in elite level competition<br />
including Commonwealth Games, World Cup and ITU<br />
Continental Cup races as well as at Scottish and British<br />
Universities events.

support the scholars’ development. Further support services are<br />
provided by our experienced, qualified staff.<br />
Funding<br />
Selected scholars can receive financial support up to £3000 per<br />
annum to subsidise competition entry, travel and other sportsrelated<br />
costs.<br />
Academic Flexibility<br />
A fundamental part <strong>of</strong> the scholarships is academic flexibility<br />
to help combine study with high performance sport. This<br />
includes assessment extensions, exam deferment and study<br />
extension periods.<br />
Accommodation and Equipment<br />
Triathlon scholars have the opportunity to stay in on-campus<br />
accommodation and every scholar is provided with important kit,<br />
including full training and race clothing.

Applicants must meet the normal entry requirements for study<br />
at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stirling</strong>. Prospective scholars should be <strong>of</strong><br />
national junior standard or higher and be prepared to work<br />
hard towards improving their performance. Apply by the end <strong>of</strong><br />
February for entry the following September.<br />

Winning Students<br />
Talented triathletes may also be eligible<br />
for a Winning Students scholarship,<br />
Scotland’s national sports scholarship programme for high<br />
performance student athletes. It provides support through<br />
awards up to £5,500 per annum. Find out more at<br />

Study at <strong>Stirling</strong><br />
Flexibility and choice – <strong>Stirling</strong> has a refreshingly different approach<br />
to degrees. You get to adapt and develop your study choices as<br />
you go, combining subjects from across the <strong>University</strong>. Scholarship<br />
triathletes can study full-time or part-time, in undergraduate or<br />
postgraduate degree programmes <strong>of</strong> their choice.<br />
Sport-specific programmes at the School <strong>of</strong> Sport, which make up<br />
12% <strong>of</strong> all applications to <strong>Stirling</strong> – include: BA Sports Studies,<br />
BSc Sport and Exercise Science, MSc Sports Management and MSc<br />
Sports Coaching.<br />
