Term 2, Week 4 - 17 May 2012
Intentionally Christian, Intentionally Inclusive
and Intentionally Excellent - Mrs Meredith
Lockery - Director of Studies
Psalm 139:14, I praise
you because I am
fearfully and wonderfully
made; your works are wonderful, I know
that full well.
Tyndale Christian School has at its heart
being Intentionally Christian,
Intentionally Inclusive and Intentionally
Excellent. We see that every person is
fearfully and wonderfully made by God
and has intrinsic value for who they are,
rather than performance or merit.
With our commitment to being an
intentionally inclusive school, our
education programme provides a valid
and high quality education for every
student, irrespective of their social,
emotional, intellectual or physical
capacity. But how do we put that into
practice? One of the ways we see it is
when staff go above and beyond to cater
for all students.
Just this past weekend, Brighton
Mawodza spent Saturday at school
working with a group of Middle School
boys setting up a garden area and
building a tool shed compliments of a
generous donation of goods from Garden
Grove. Brighton is committed to working
with these boys so that they may have
better outcomes in life. This is on top of
his work teaching SOSE.
In Junior School this past week we saw
the first meeting of the Multi-Disciplinary
Team, the MDT, which has been formed
so that students in the Junior School with
multiple needs – social, medical,
emotional, educational, are cared for as
whole people. This team, made up of
SCHOOL BUS BEHAVIOUR
Mark Zerna - Special Education, Simon
Gill - Pastoral Care as the DHOJS, Liz
Rankin - School Nurse, and myself as JS
Counsellor will be meeting weekly to
ensure that students at risk in the Junior
School are well cared for in all areas of
their life. This has been a dream of
Mark’s and mine for some time and it is
just so fantastic that it has now begun
operation. Similar teams are going to be
set up in Middle and Senior School.
Students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 sat the
NAPLAN test this week and our hard
working computer team spent
considerable time setting up computers
with no spell check, grammar check,
access to Internet or intranet so that 12
students in the Middle School could
access the writing test. This allowed
these students to participate with much
less stress, leading to better outcomes
for them.
Different members of staff have
continued to research computing options
so that students can have best access to
technology. Last week two Junior School
teachers spent a day exploring best
practice for the use of iPads, ready for
the arrival of the iPads in R-2. The ICT
Strategic Team spent hours talking and
listening to experts about ways of
allowing greater access of students to
technology.
It is exciting to be part of a staff team
who are committed to doing all they can
so that students can access a high
quality education. It is education of the
whole person, the person seen as
fearfully and wonderfully made by God
and truly worthy of our care.
It has been noted that Tyndale students need to watch these behaviours on any of the
buses they catch to and from school.
If your child catches a bus to school please read this with them.
No part of anyone’s body to be outside the window – even if the bus is stationary.
Sensible behaviour at all times when seated.
Level of noise to be at a talking level.
Food and drink to be consumed before or after alighting.
Thank you for being safety conscious and courtesy at all times. Wendy Jolley
respect integrity service excellence
On Friday 1 June, the Junior School will be running its Arts
Carnival for Years 2-5. The Arts Carnival will be open to all
families, not just those who have a child performing. It’s a
great night of fun and entertainment and an opportunity to
see a wide range of performing arts. Each performance will
be repeated three times so that parents have the opportunity
to see more than one type of performance.
The performance is free but Meal Tickets are available until
Friday 25 May. If you would like to order tickets, please
contact the Junior School Office for an order form. The
purchase of food is available for adults and children but it is
not compulsory as there is no entry fee for the night.
We held a competition to design a poster to advertise the Arts
Carnival.
The winners for each year level are as follows:
Year 2 – Matthew De Marchi
Year 3 – Maddison Hoff
Year 4 – Kira Halliwell and Alexis Ward (These posters have
been included in the newsletter with the details about the
Arts Carnival)
Year 5 – Kiara Grasso
We would love to see you all there.
PREFECTS PERSPECTIVE
School sucks. Life sucks, it’s not fair! I guess that’s one
way of looking at life. However, like Monty Python says,
“always look on the bright side of life”, sometimes I can
forget this. One day I had a really bad day, at the end of
that day I realised it was actually my attitude towards that
day rather than the events that occurred. That “terrible”
day I had, probably could have been a whole lot better if I
changed my attitude. I guess now I try to look on the
positive side of life, I admit this is a concept I still struggle
with sometimes, however I can guarantee life is a whole lot
easier if you look at it this way. A positive attitude becomes
easier and easier to achieve the longer you try, especially if
you remember that every day belongs to the Lord. One of
my favourite verses comes from Psalms 118:24; This is the
day that the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in
it. This is actually a song that I often keep in my head to
keep my spirits up. So the next time you have a bad day,
instead of letting your negativity take control, dwell on the
fact that God has given you this day and with it a
wonderful opportunity to live life to the fullest whatever the
circumstance.
PREFECTS PERSPECTIVE
The Ultimate Hero
I love action movies, my favourite is
“Transformers” and my favourite
transformer is Optimus Prime. On
Monday 14 May the Blood Bank Bus
came to school and I gave blood. While
sitting on the bus I remembered all my
favourite heroes. Each one has different
powers and abilities that make them
special. When I saw the blood running
down the tube I remembered that Jesus
was the ultimate hero. His blood poured
out for me but not just for me, for
everyone. I also remembered the Bible
verse Isaiah 53:2-5:
2
He grew up before him like a tender
shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract
us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should
desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by
mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with
pain.
Like one from whom people hide their
faces
he was despised, and we held him in low
esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
5
But he was pierced for our
transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace
was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
Yep, Jesus is the ultimate hero and I
wait eagerly to be with him one day.
SENIOR SCHOOL EXPO EVENT
Monday 7 May 2012
Thank you to all who attended the inaugural Senior School Expo,
we had a great turn out.
The evening provided a wonderful opportunity for students
and their parents to ask lots of questions and obtain information
regarding university, TAFE and career pathways.
We would especially like to thank Adelaide and Flinders universities,
Uni SA, TAFE SA, the Police Force and the Australian Defence Force
for making the night possible.
