handouts <strong>of</strong> required reading related to statutory interpretation. Our <strong>first</strong> meeting is a two-hour <strong>class</strong>, so please come prepared<br />

to discuss <strong>the</strong> reading.<br />

For this course, we will use Freeland, Lathrope, Lind & Stephens, Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> Federal Income Taxation (16th ed., 2011)<br />

[hereinafter, “FLLS”]. You MAY NOT use an earlier edition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> text.<br />

We will also use <strong>the</strong> Internal Revenue Code (“IRC”) and <strong>the</strong> Treasury Regulations; in <strong>class</strong>, we will refer to <strong>the</strong> most current<br />

edition (<strong>2013</strong> edition) <strong>of</strong> Thomson/West’s Selected Federal Taxation Statutes and Regulations. You MAY use a slightly older<br />

edition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Code book (no earlier than <strong>the</strong> 2011 edition).<br />
