<strong>Central</strong> Station will be open Tues., April<br />

Kinesiology and Health Studies<br />
On April 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Laura<br />
Puryear from the United States Tennis<br />
Association (UTSA) will be conducting a<br />
workshop providing instruction on how to<br />
implement USTA Tennis Curriculum (K-<br />
12). Stephanie Canada-Phillips will also<br />
provide instruction on blending UTSA<br />
Tennis Curriculum and Common Core<br />
State Standards. This is open to all<br />
educators and students! For further<br />

Dr. Sunshine Cowan’s Community/ Public<br />
Health capstone class had a great turnout<br />
last weekend at the C<strong>of</strong>fee Creek<br />
Apartments in Edmond to promote better<br />
and healthier living! The students, along<br />
with community partners the Lion’s Club<br />
Foundation, <strong>Oklahoma</strong> City County<br />
Health Department – Tobacco Use<br />
Prevention, Girl Scouts <strong>of</strong> Western<br />
<strong>Oklahoma</strong>, and the UCO Outdoor and<br />
Community Recreation Club were in<br />
attendance.<br />

Drs. Sara Cole and Sunshine Cowan<br />
(Kinesiology and Health Studies) will be in<br />
Orlando, Fla., April 16-19, for the Society<br />
for Public Health Education 64 th Annual<br />
Meeting. Dr. Cole serves on the Board <strong>of</strong><br />
Trustees for the Society; Dr. Cowan will<br />
present “Transformative Learning that<br />
Works Magic on Students and the<br />
Communities They Serve”.<br />
Drs. Janette C. Wetsel (Curriculum and<br />
Instruction) will attend the Institute for<br />
Global Education Diplomacy in<br />
Washington D.C., April 17-22. Dr. Wetsel<br />
will co-present with students “Creating<br />
and Implementing a Holiday Policy Plan in<br />
an Early Childhood Classroom” and<br />
“Young Children in Brazil”.<br />
Sara Douglass (Psychology) will make a<br />
presentation at the Society for Research<br />
in Child Development Biennial Meeting on<br />
April 18 in Seattle. The title <strong>of</strong> the<br />
presentation is “Racial/ Ethnic Teasing<br />
and Anxiety in Adolescents: A Person-by-<br />
Context Approach”.<br />
Drs. Sylvia Hurst, Julie Collins (Advanced<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional and Special Services) and<br />
DiAnn McDown (Curriculum and<br />
Instruction) will be in San Antonio, April<br />
18-22, to attend the International Reading<br />
Association’s 58 th Annual Convention. Dr.<br />
Collins will present “Assessing CCSS-<br />
Updates from PARCC & Smarter<br />
Balanced: IRA Govt. Relations”.
