PRICE A WOODEN FINALIST: Junior A.J. Price has been<br />

named to the final ballot of John R. Wooden Award finalists, a<br />

group of 24 players now eligible for the prestigious player of the<br />

year honor. The complete list includes: Ryan Anderson,<br />

USBWA AWARDS: A.J. Price was named the USBWA<br />

District 1 Player of the Year on March 11. Price was joined on<br />

the All-District team by teammate Jeff Adrien. USBWA District<br />

1 is comprised of teams from Maine, Vermont, N.H., R.I.,<br />

Mass., Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Connecticut. The<br />

PRICE AMONG FINALISTS: A.J. Price has been named<br />

one of ten finalists for the USBWA Player of the Year award, The<br />

Oscar Robertson Trophy. Price is joined on the list by The<br />

following players have been nominated for the Oscar Robertson<br />

Trophy: D.J. Augustin (Texas); Michael Beasley (Kansas State);<br />

Chris Douglas-Roberts (Memphis); Shan Foster (Vanderbilt);<br />

Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina); Luke Harangody (Notre<br />

Dame); Robbie Hummel (Purdue); Kevin Love (UCLA); D.J.<br />

White (Indiana). The Oscar Robertson Trophy is awarded to<br />

the USBWA's Player of the Year. It is the nation's oldest award<br />

and the only one named after a former player. The legendary<br />

Oscar Robertson was the USBWA's first player of the year in<br />

1959. The USBWA renamed its player of the year award the<br />

Oscar Robertson Trophy in 1998.<br />

HUSKY BIG EAST HONOREES: Three <strong>Huskies</strong> earned<br />

recognition when the BIG EAST announced its all-league<br />

honors for the 2007-08 season. Junior A.J. Price was chosen<br />

unanimously by the coaches as an All-BIG EAST First Team<br />

selection, while junior Jeff Adrien also earned All-BIG EAST<br />

First Team recognition. Sophomore Hasheem Thabeet was<br />

named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.<br />

DEFENSIVE HONOREE: Hasheem Thabeet was named<br />

the 2007-08 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year March 11<br />

at a press conference at the Grand Hyatt in New York.<br />

Thabeet's selection marks the fifth time in six seasons that<br />

<strong>UConn</strong> has had the league's top defensive player and he<br />

becomes the fifth Husky to earn the honor, joining Hilton<br />

Armstrong (2005-06), Josh Boone (2004-05), Emeka Okafor<br />

(2003-04 & 2002-03) and Donyell Marshall (1993-94). Thabeet<br />

is averaging 4.5 blocks per game this season, ranking No. 3<br />

nationally and leading the BIG EAST for the second straight<br />

season. He averaged 5.2 blocks per game in league play and<br />

his 94 total blocks in BIG EAST play set a new conference<br />

record, breaking the old mark of 93 held by Alonzo Mourning<br />

of Georgetown, set in 1991-92.<br />

NABC AWARDS: Three <strong>UConn</strong> performers were named to<br />

the NABC All-District teams announced on March 4. A.J. Price<br />

and Jeff Adrien were each named to the All-District 1 First<br />

Team, while Hasheem Thabeet was named to the All-District<br />

1 Second Team. Adrien was a second team pick in 2006-07.<br />

Joining Price and Adrien on the first team were Tyrese Rice of<br />
