As Student C tags <strong>the</strong> sites for her team, school librarian Ms. J is conduct<strong>in</strong>g research on behalf <strong>of</strong> a new<br />

math teacher. She and <strong>the</strong> school tech facilitator both subscribe to all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teachers' Monday report<br />

blogs. With access to <strong>the</strong>se weekly updates, <strong>the</strong>y can use a shared spreadsheet to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> an ongo<strong>in</strong>g<br />

curriculum map <strong>of</strong> what's be<strong>in</strong>g taught <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> school. The librarian and tech educator use <strong>the</strong> map to<br />

support teachers, f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g and identify<strong>in</strong>g resources and strategies related to what <strong>the</strong>y are teach<strong>in</strong>g. Ms. J<br />

is us<strong>in</strong>g a blogg<strong>in</strong>g search eng<strong>in</strong>e to f<strong>in</strong>d some serious <strong>Web</strong>logs about ma<strong>the</strong>matics so that <strong>the</strong> new<br />

teacher can <strong>in</strong>clude more practical applications <strong>in</strong> her current unit on real-world math. She f<strong>in</strong>ds several<br />

blogs: Galileo's Dilemma (math, physics, and chemistry), Dr. Katte's Blog (eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g), and<br />

BizImpresario (entrepreneurship). The librarian <strong>the</strong>n adds <strong>the</strong> three blogs to <strong>the</strong> school's social<br />

bookmarks and tags <strong>the</strong>m for <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g that she has just noted on <strong>the</strong> school's collaborative social<br />

calendar.<br />

Meanwhile, <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>cipal is also look<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> school calendar. She is f<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g up a weekly blog entry<br />

that describes happen<strong>in</strong>gs at <strong>the</strong> school for <strong>the</strong> next seven days, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g two class podcasts, a band<br />

concert (also to be podcasted), a guest speaker, an <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g lesson about ancient civilizations, and <strong>the</strong><br />

PTO meet<strong>in</strong>g. The adm<strong>in</strong>istrator subscribes to and scans all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teachers' Monday report blogs for<br />

material to <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>in</strong> her weekly report. She always posts <strong>the</strong> blog entry by <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day on<br />

Monday, which is read not only by parents but also by o<strong>the</strong>r schools, district leadership, and people from<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> community and country.<br />

Early that even<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> district super<strong>in</strong>tendent reads <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>cipal's recently posted blog. He also subscribes<br />

to <strong>the</strong> teachers' Monday report blogs, f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>the</strong>ir writ<strong>in</strong>g gives him a bank <strong>of</strong> ideas for promot<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> district and its efforts toward cont<strong>in</strong>ued improvement. After he f<strong>in</strong>ishes <strong>the</strong> read<strong>in</strong>g, he briefly<br />

accesses <strong>the</strong> wiki site where he and a committee <strong>of</strong> educators and community members are collaborat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to develop a district improvement plan. He jots down a couple <strong>of</strong> ideas that occurred to him while<br />

read<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> digital conversations that have come to def<strong>in</strong>e <strong>the</strong> middle school. He moves on to publish <strong>the</strong><br />

wiki version <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> improvement plan, <strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>terested community members to edit <strong>the</strong> improvement<br />

plan with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> wiki and <strong>in</strong>sert <strong>the</strong>ir reflections and ideas through attached comments. This super<strong>in</strong>tendent<br />

truly believes that, "It takes a village..."<br />
