TACTICS<br />
ACCOUNTABILITY<br />
• En<strong>for</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> provisions of <strong>the</strong> amended UAGA<br />
th<strong>at</strong> protect <strong>the</strong> intent of <strong>the</strong> organ donor<br />
without <strong>the</strong> concurrence or consent of <strong>the</strong><br />
donor’s family.<br />
• Enact <strong>the</strong> amended UAGA in <strong>the</strong> 11 st<strong>at</strong>es th<strong>at</strong><br />
have not done so.<br />
• Implement donor registries in st<strong>at</strong>es<br />
currently without <strong>the</strong>m and educ<strong>at</strong>e <strong>the</strong><br />
public to increase enrollment.<br />
• Conduct demonstr<strong>at</strong>ion projects, funded by<br />
federal and st<strong>at</strong>e governments, to test <strong>the</strong><br />
impacts of altern<strong>at</strong>ive social programs on<br />
increasing don<strong>at</strong>ion r<strong>at</strong>es and make public<br />
educ<strong>at</strong>ion a fundamental component of <strong>the</strong>se<br />
demonstr<strong>at</strong>ion projects.<br />
• Implement protocols <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> recovery of<br />
organs from donors after cardiac de<strong>at</strong>h.<br />
• Provide enhanced resources <strong>for</strong> and focus on<br />
preventive and health promotion programs<br />
aimed <strong>at</strong> preventing organ failure and reducing<br />
<strong>the</strong> demand <strong>for</strong> organ transplant<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
• Promote <strong>the</strong> expansion and use of living<br />
donor exchanges.<br />
• Support <strong>the</strong> progression of new sciences and<br />
technologies th<strong>at</strong> have <strong>the</strong> potential to narrow<br />
<strong>the</strong> don<strong>at</strong>ion gap and decrease <strong>the</strong> risk of<br />
organ rejection.<br />
