3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION<br />

Part A: Light yellow liquid with pungent odor (sulfur dioxide) that contains ammonium salts which produce<br />

ammonia in the presence of bases or high heat <strong>and</strong> will produce toxic fumes if mixed with sodium<br />

hypochlorite (bleach).<br />

HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED, CAUSES SKIN AND EYE IRRITATION AND MAY CAUSE<br />

ALLERGIC SKIN REACTION. DO NOT MIX WITH HOUSEHOLD BLEACH.<br />

4. FIRST AID MEASURES<br />

Inhalation: Move to fresh air, obtain medical attention if required.<br />

Eye Contact: Hold eyelids apart <strong>and</strong> immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Get medical<br />

attention.<br />

Skin Contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water while removing contaminated clothing <strong>and</strong> shoes. Launder<br />

contaminated clothes <strong>and</strong> shoes prior to reuse. If skin irritation or an allergic skin reaction develops get medical<br />

attention.<br />

Ingestion:<br />

Part A & B: Induce vomiting as directed by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an<br />

unconscious person. Obtain medical care <strong>and</strong> hospital treatment immediately.<br />

Working Solution: Drink 1 - 2 glasses of water, get medical attention<br />

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES<br />

Extinguishing Media: Water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide (CO2) or alcohol foam.<br />

Equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus <strong>and</strong> protective clothing to prevent contact with skin <strong>and</strong> eyes.<br />

Hazardous Combustion Products: Excessive heat may produce hazardous decomposition products.<br />

Part A: Ammonia <strong>and</strong> oxides of sulfur.<br />

Part B: Oxides of sulfur.<br />

Working Solution: Ammonia <strong>and</strong> oxides of sulfur.<br />

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES<br />

Flush to sewer with a large amount of water - May require neutralization if pH below 3 or above 12.<br />

Part A: pH 5.2<br />

Part B: Neutralize with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).<br />

Working Solution: pH 4.0 - 4.5<br />

Otherwise, absorb spill with vermiculite or other suitable absorbent <strong>and</strong> place in impervious container for disposal in an<br />

approved <strong>and</strong> permitted l<strong>and</strong>fill.<br />

Clean area thoroughly to remove residual contamination.<br />

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE<br />

Avoid contact with eyes, skin <strong>and</strong> clothing. Store between 10 - 25 o C (50 - 80 o F).<br />

Protect shipments from freezing (Keep above 4.4 o C (40 o F))<br />

Engineering Controls: Good general ventilation (10 room volumes per hour) should be sufficient to control<br />

airborne levels below recommended exposure limits when product is used as intended.<br />

If product is used in any other manner local exhaust ventilation may be necessary to control any air contaminants to<br />

within their TLV’s during use of this product.<br />

In addition the availability of an NIOSH approved air purifying respirator should be considered when large<br />

quantities of product is being h<strong>and</strong>led.<br />

Respirator Types:<br />

Part A, B & Working Solutions: Organic Vapor, acidic gas.<br />

All respirators must be NIOSH approved.<br />

In the U.S. if respirators are used, a program to comply with OSHA St<strong>and</strong>ard 29CFR 1910.134 must be instituted.<br />

Skin Protection: Impervious gloves (nitrile rubber).<br />
