The 398-yard, Par 4, 1st Hole Introduces you to
the character of Silver Lakes. You begin with a
narrow fairway carved out of a mature hard and
softwood forest. The layout places a premium
on both accuracy and distance. The fairway is
guarded by trees along each side and a pair of
bunkers along the left. An accurate tee shot will
leave you with a mid-iron approach to a gently
sloping, shallow green. The green is well protected
by one front and two smaller back side bunkers.

A controlled tee shot is required on the 391-
yard, 2nd hole. The fairway is again protected
by forest on both sides. About 100 yards from
the pin, the right side of the fairway is taken over
by one of the many water hazards to be found
on Silver Lakes. Your approach shot must carry
over the lake which protects the green. Accuracy
is at a premium as the green is also guarded by
a bunker on the right and undulating hills on the
left and back sides. Out of bounds looms down
the left side of the green.

Green Depth: 14
The 3rd hole is the first of four Par
3’s you will find at Silver Lakes.
Measuring in at only 158 yards,
it is also the shortest hole on the
golf course. All carry over water, a
shallow green awaits on the other
side. A precise tee shot is required
if you wish to avoid playing your
second shot from any one of the
three bunkers that guard the front of
the green.

For obvious reasons, selecting a signature hole
on this golf course is no easy task. The 407-
yard, 4th hole, however, is a worthy candidate.
This challenging Par 4 favours those capable of
creative shotmaking off the tee. A right to left
tee shot around a tall cluster of birch trees that
jut into the fairway, ideally positions you for a
mid-iron approach to a long and narrow green.
Two bunkers closely flank the right side of the
green awaiting those who miss the green by
the smallest of margins.

As the longest hole on the front nine, this
546-yard, Par 5, places a premium on
accuracy. Your approach to the green is
best from the right side of the fairway as a
significant water hazard guards the left side
of the fairway and the green. Overshooting
the green will make for a difficult par. Watch

The 6th hole is another beautiful Par 4 that
extends 414 yards alongside towering white
birch trees which lend Silver Lakes that
“Carolina-Style” atmosphere so many golfers
enjoy. Off the tee, play to the right-centre of
the fairway as anything else on this slight
dogleg left will leave you with a difficult
approach. Care is required for your second
shot if the pin is tucked away in the back left
corner as it angles away from the player.

At 204 yards, the Par 3, 7th hole is deceptive.
Off the tee, you are faced with a difficult shot
to a narrow green. Try to lay up just short
of the green, as overshooting the green will
make for a difficult par. The back and sides of

difficult lies.

Measuring 446 yards, the 9th hole is the
longest par 4 on the front nine. It is arguably
the most difficult hole on the course.
Approximately 200 yards off the tee, a large
bunker lurks ominously along the left side of
the narrow fairway. From any location, your
approach requires a demanding shot as you
must avoid a pond and three bunkers that
surround the green.

A 397-yard, par 4, tree-lined fairway
featuring a dogleg to the right. Off the tee,
watch out for the bunkers placed strategically
at the turn of the dogleg, 150 yards from
the pin. Your second shot is to a small green
guarded by a bunker on the left. The green
is difficult to hold as the front slopes away
from the back.

The 11th hole, at 203 yards, at first glance
seems to be an easy par 3. However, the entire
tree-lined right side of the fairway is out of
bounds, and anything left of the fairway brings
a water hazard into play. The green looks easy
as a lone bunker guards the front right, but par
is still challenging as the green, at 36 yards
deep, is narrow and undulating.

The 450-yard, 12th hole is particularly
infamous as a strong headwind often
prevails. As the longest par 4 on the course,
this hole demands two excellent shots to
reach the green. In addition to being brutally
long, the 12th features a well-protected,
undulating, rolling green that is often the
host of many difficult pin placements.

4. Off the tee, avoid the water on the
left. To the waters edge, it is 198 yards
from the white tees. The second shot is
deceptive because of the shallow green
and surrounding bunkers. Depending
on pin placement, your target can
be centred on just 32 yards of green
between two bunkers guarding the
front and back sides.

The longest hole at Silver Lakes is the
mammoth 595-yard, Par 5, 14th hole. A long
and accurate drive is required in order to avoid
the perils of the aqua range on the left and
the out-of-bounds tree line on the right. From
beyond the 150-yard marker, the complexion
of the hole changes as the fairway converges
towards another narrow green flanked on
either side by long bunkers.

provides an open area to the left for the faint
of heart. There are however, many mounds
on the left which makes for a difficult second
shot from there. The ideal approach to the
green is from the centre of the fairway. The
green is small and difficult to hold as it rests
on two elevations. A bunker guards the left.

5 and an appropriate conclusion to a championship
golf course that has pleased and punished many
accomplished golfers. The fairway is complicated
by bunkers and brush on the left, trees and water
on the right. Your approach shots lead you along
a tree-lined fairway toward a shallow and wellbunkered
green. A well deserved break awaits
you in the ranch-style clubhouse overlooking the
finishing hole.
