Dr. <strong>Imperatori</strong> qualified as Medical Doctor at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pavia<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Medicine in 1994. After spending part <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

training at the European Institute <strong>of</strong> Oncology, Milano (September<br />

1995-May 1996), in the year 2000 he completed his graduate work in<br />

General Surgery at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Insubria</strong>, Varese.<br />

Dr. <strong>Imperatori</strong>'s specific clinical interests include surgical infections,<br />

detection and treatment <strong>of</strong> early lung cancer, general thoracic surgery,<br />

pleural mesothelioma and minimally invasive surgery such as videoassisted<br />

thoracic surgery (VATS).<br />

Dr. <strong>Imperatori</strong> has been actively involved in the development <strong>of</strong> several<br />

research projects. <strong>The</strong>se include: treatment with high-dose<br />

immunoglobulins in severely septic patients; early postoperative<br />

internal nutrition in gastrointestinal cancer patients; a lung cancer<br />

screening program in the Province <strong>of</strong> Varese, Italy, named Progetto<br />

PRE.DI.CA.; translational research for the identification <strong>of</strong> target<br />

therapy for lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma.<br />

He cumulatively spent one year at the <strong>University</strong> Hospitals <strong>of</strong> Stocktonon-Tees<br />

and Hartlepool, Great Britain, in an Honorary Research Post,<br />

during 2000-2001 carrying out comparative research on lung cancer<br />

epidemiology and treatment in Teesside (UK) and the Province <strong>of</strong><br />

Varese (Italy).<br />

He is currently a research fellow in General Surgery at the School <strong>of</strong><br />

Medicine at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Insubria</strong> in Varese, where he teaches<br />

academic courses in three graduate schools (General Surgery,<br />

Thoracic Surgery and Respiratory Diseases), and three specific<br />

Courses for physiotherapists, radiologic technicians, and clinical<br />

laboratorists.<br />
